James Neal has never been a strong scorer at any level but he has an unreal shooting percentage for Dallas this season. He is obviously about 4 years younger than both Leino and Ruutu so there is the need to see more of what he has before we put any label on him. The 18 goals are nice, but the lack of a well rounded offensive game may make him less useful when those shots aren't falling and believe me.... nobody shoots 16.5 for the duration of their career.
Ville Leino is a total unknown at this stage. He has had a decent enough start at the AHL level and NHL level this year but the history isn't there for him either. Leino seems like a better passer than goal scorer so we'll see how he fits with the Wings on a long term basis.... but there is a lot of talent there in Detroit to make players look a lot better than they are. Not saying that is the case here, but it's something to watch for.
Tuomo Ruutu is your best player as of today. Without future considered, it's pretty easy to pick Ruutu considering he already has a few 40-50 point seasons under his belt. This year he has 16 goals and 16 assists and is on pace for 25-25-50.... not to mention his physical play and his defensive ability. Neal will be a player to watch in the future for sure, but if you have to win a hockey game today it would be an error to not take Ruutu.
