Tough news. As they say though, the show must go on. It'll be interesting to see if Drew Stafford can keep up his hot streak with a much much lesser player on the other wing.

Ouch. Ouch.

Could be much worse. Mike McD texted me and I thought he was done for the season.

If he's out 3 weeks, that's about 9 games. That hurts. Luckily, there aren't really many "world beater" type teams in there. Islanders. Ottawa. Toronto. Carolina. Rangers.

Probably the best bet. I haven't liked Kotalik on Roy's wing, so it will be nice to have Mac on there. I wouldn't mind getting a look at Gerbe if Paille still wants to play like ****.

I blame Paetsch. Whenever he plays at forward someone gets hurt. It used to be just defenseman, but Goose against Toronto and now Vanek...

It's a miracle we got through the Montreal game without losing anyone.

the team HAS to gut it through the next 3 weeks. they have to get to the trade deadline in good position without Vanek.

there goes his 1st 50 goal season.

Another Unnecessary Injury

caused by the NHL's culture of macho stupidity. Maybe when he comes back, Vanek can be the courageous player needed to lead the NHL to common sense, and don full face protection. They all wore full face masks before they turned pro. Why exactly is it that we have to continually see broken jaws, knocked out teeth, eye injuries and the various other injuries that would be easily preventable by use of a full face mask? To keep Don Cherry happy?

Thankfully our schedule is "lighter" now than it was the last couple of weeks. But, we have some huge games coming up. Time to prove what this team can do.

Possibly benefit out of this? A well rested Vanek come playoff time.

Sorry to hear about this guys..Vanek was having such a great year also. One positive about this is that Miller has been playing better as of late.

Yeah, he does lead the NHL in PPG. There goes that facet, so they'll really have to crank it up even strength, now.

I think they should just ban hockey. I mean one person died, and the game is just too fast. Maybe as a compromise we could implement a speed limit on the ice and put big rubber bumpers around the boards. Or maybe we could use a foam puck. The skate blades are dangerous too so lets get rid of the ice and transform the NHL into a roller hockey league.

Interesting "thought", but not exactly on point. Really. What is the objection to face protection? There was a time when goalies didn't wear masks. They all do now and my appreciation of Ryan Miller's talents isn't diminished at all by my limited view of his face.

If the players association wants face protection than they can have it as far as I'm concerned. I just hate it when rules, laws, and regulations are put into place against the will of the people they're supposedly protecting. The seat belt/cell phone/text messaging crap immediately comes to mind.

I do like to be able to see the players faces though; one of the many things I dislike about football is how disconnected the players are from the fans. The stadiums are huge, and the players look inhuman in their equipment.

I get this religious zealot vibe from you. Is there a cult that promotes the use of full face masks? You just wait until something like this happens and you pollute home team threads don't you. You are trying to play on our intense emotional attachment to an injured player in order to further your own agenda.
