Taking into consideration the lack of a shutdown dman on most teams, I take Marc Staal seven days a week.

They are both shutdown defensemen.

Schenn might be slightly better defensively but how can anyone see more offensive upside in Schenn? Staal put up almost a point per game in the OHL playoffs, and even thought the WHL is much tighter defensively the numbers don't nearly match up. It's very close but the offensive edge of Staal is what gives him edge.

Thought it would only be fair to show a similar play by Staal

I believe Schenn is good but I often see him out of position to make the big hit. Seriously, his defensive game needs tweaking, but I'm sure he'll be a good #1-2 in a few years.

Marc Staal on the other hand leads the league for GA/60min, and is NEVER out of position.

Staal.

Who'd Schenn blow to get all this love around here? Shouldnt he be up against the likes of Bogosian and Johnson, etc for now?

Staal's had the task of going up against Ovie, shift for shift... and done his job...

Its just the rest of the Rangers D that likes to sit around watching the game.

Staal by the slimmest of margins. Schenn's great and will have a greater impact physically but Staal's a better all around hockey player.

This is where I disagree almost entirely. Thats the greatest part of Schenn's game is that when he makes big hit he doesn't put himself out of position at all. Leafs have had their share of defensemen who make that mistake (McCabe, Coliacivo (sp?) come to mind recently). When Schenn decides to line someone up, they are out of the play, and won't make the hit if he thinks that it might lead to a turnover.

Schenn in his rookie year >>>> Staal's rookie year

Schenn's this year in Toronto [18 yrs. old] is almost as good as Staal's year...[21 yrs. old]
