The 2009 Trade Deadline Prediction Thread (Updated Regularly!!!)
Since a lot of people like making trade proposals, I thought we should add a little more fun by trying to predict realistic moves that could possibly happen by the March 4th deadline. I don't see how we can be as bad as some so called insiders so lets put our hockey knowledge to the test and give this game a fair shot.
Note: If someone gets a prediction correct or is at least pretty close to it, I will post the users name just for bragging rights.
Lets get it started!

I will take a shot at this. I think it will be easier to say who will not be moved, but..
Between now and the deadline:
1. Columbus trades a 4th round pick to the Blues for Legacy
2. Columbus trades Mayorov and a 3rd to Toronto for Antropov
3. Detroit trades a 2nd to the Island for Guerin
At this point, I don't think a ton of moves will be made - If the Blues and Edmonton stay in the playoff race, then neither team will trade Cole or KT. However, if either team faulters:
1. Boston trades Sobotka or Marchand and a 3rd to St. Louis for KT
2. New York trades Sanguinetti to Edmonton for Cole.
I also believe the Blues will make a move for a Goalie like Schneider, but we will see.
The Jackets' decision not to claim Legace, a 10-year-veteran, came as a surprise to many. General manager Scott Howson would not comment on the matter.
It is believed that management discussed obtaining the goalie, who has a 13-9-2 record this season with a 3.18 goals-against average and an .885 save percentage. Among the possible reasons they passed: Legace, 36, was due to make $1.1 million the rest of the season and has squabbled publicly with Blues management.
Jordan Leopold to NJ for Bergfors (or a 2nd round pick + prospect).
Ruslan Salei to Boston for Lashoff.
Then COL acquires a random bottom pairing defensman for a 5th or 6th round pick or picks one off waivers since there's no one in their system that could step in for rest of the season.
Detroit trades Valtteri Filppula and 7 first round picks to Washington for Alexander Ovechkin and 7 million dollars of cap space... the NHL trys to butt in saying "it's illegal to trade cap space!!" But Ken Holland jumps Bettmen and burns the CBA to the ground. (both literally and figuratively)
George McPhee announces that he traded away OV because he liked Filppulas up-side and his contract. Later he is quoted trying to defend the move he made... "According to HFBoards youth trumps everything! How was I saposed to turn down 7 first rounders!"
Detroit and Washington end up meeting in the finals... Ovechkin scores the game winning goal of game 7 in septuple overtime. Riots ensue in Washington. Ken Holland re-negotiates Ovechkins contract to 6.6 million a year, which is legal under the new CBA.
You read it here first.
[edit] Oh, and Anaheim falls into the Pacific Ocean... and the Penguins fold.

at someone taking Gomez. His cap ($7.375-million) + term (ends June 30 2014) will stop anybody from taking him, especially with the cap likely to go down in a couple of years.
From the leafs, I expect nothing major, since Kabby got hurt.
1- Antropov (mid-high prospect + 2nd/3rd or a late 1st)
2- Ponikarovsky (mid prospect + 3rd)
3- Moore (low prospect + 3rd)
Guys like Kaberle and Kubina and Stempniak will be held onto, and then moved at the draft (Kaberle) and next deadline (Kubina and Stempniak).
van trades beiska for alex frolov add in a pick as well. then gillis finishes the day by getting either boumesster, kabs or kuba for package of raymond draft pick. pyatt dealt to a team for a draft pick

...then, after Gillis puts down the PS3 controller, he calls some NHL GM's to discuss trades.
or more realistic. van gets kuba+neil (neil on the third line) with burrows and bernier. kesler is still second line. how about brian gionta? yes he's small but he can score
