The logic is that Briere isn't really overly injury prone. He has had two major injuries since juniors. You are talking about how he has constant health issues, yet over his entire career he has only had a couple significant injuries. Just like most players, there are very few players who never suffer an injury here or there over their careers.

And he has had one major injury while here, which has lingered this season. He played in 79 games last year And he didn't have any injuries in juniors and one major one in Buffalo.

Current Date: February 10th, 2009

2009-1977=32

Therefore he will turn 32 this year. As of right now, he is 31. If you want to be exact, he is 31 years and 127 days old.

Damn that tricky math. It is almost as hard as using proper punctuation or quoting other posters.

Rob Parent calls for Holmgren to consider trading Briere.

Mentioning Giroux as the current top line center is a reach. There have been enough line switches in recent games to dispel that; an argument can be made that Carter's line is the top line and of course Richards.

The "need" to sign Knuble is debatable as well.

Briere is a gamer. He’s also a center that can play wing, can score from anywhere, has his share of defensive shortcomings yet is a world-class power play weapon. If, as is the plan, he returns in time for a monthly tune-up and a smooth run into the playoffs, the Flyers would gain the luxury of using him as an extra forward who could be slotted anywhere — including his rightful place of center on the top line, currently occupied by Giroux.

It should all make for a very interesting postseason, especially if a physical defender does become available at the deadline for a combination of draft pick and prospect … or even a regular forward that Holmgren wouldn’t mind tossing in.

By summer, however, the Flyers might want to take a hard look at what they have in Briere and wonder if they should talk to him about a future elsewhere.

He’ll have been here for two parts of his contracted six-season term, and is a tough salary swallow for any team, since he has one more season at $8 million, followed by three more at $7 million each.

Giroux has played what, 10 shifts between Gagne and Knuble? I guess he only watches the first minute of the game where they show the lines and then starts writing articles that don't make any sense.

It's a reach to say Giroux is the current top line center, but they still need to look into trading Briere because it simply makes the most sense under the cap to not have so much committed to the center position.

Move Lupul and Briere and Giroux become your top two RWs.

NHL keeping an eye on the Flyers:

Here’s a question: Should Briere play in back-to-back games coming off long-term injury? “It’s gonna be one of those things I’ll see where I am on Monday,” he said. Briere said he might not be available until Friday against Montreal. The NHL is watching the Flyers carefully with Briere. In other words, if they feel he is healthy and the Flyers are trying to “stash” him to get out of a salary cap jam with the intent of bringing him back only for the playoffs, it won’t happen. The Flyers know that, according to a league source. Which is why Briere has to come before the playoffs. And when he does, the Flyers will lose at least one veteran off their roster.

The Devils did it with Richard Matvichuk a few years ago. Matvichuk even said he was healthy at mid-season and he couldn't come off IR until the Devils could fit him in. The Devils got him in with 1 game left.

Someone must have said something to someone in the league in confidence.

Maybe an "accident" needs to happen to one Randy Jones and his fat contract.

The NHL has essentially been making it up on the fly since the lockout...they were so invested in getting a season going that they didn't necessarily think through all the ramifications of the CBA...since then they've been fixing that. Such as altering the rules with sending players down to stop us from doing that every day to save some cap space.

Devils were particularly bad in dealing with the cap at the outset and I'm sure there were some notable alterations to enforcement to deal with some of those problems.

he has already come back once this season and gotten hurt, so its best to take it slow. I don't think Holmgren was/is planning on trying on keeping Briere out until the playoffs.

Edit: or at least I hope not.
