I can't imagine someone wouldn't. Even if you're a team lower in the standings, you could always trade him for picks or prospects.

Actually it doesn't matter because he gets paid in USD.

Jagr to the Oilers not happening, at least not this season:

http://communities.canada.com/edmont...ssia-lowe.aspx

It says he may sign with them next season, but I won't hold my breath....

If the Oilers keep playing like they have lately, they might be 30th by the time the deadline hits. Otherwise, Jags would have to go through waivers and would not get to the Oilers.

You sure it was negotiated in USD? Apparently the Emery contract was negotiated in Rubles and he's getting hosed.

the fact that Lowe says he isn't coming here and cites that he's under contract just means that he's not publicly talking about any negotiation or discussion he may've had with a player under contract in another league (just a guess). I've heard that Jagr is pretty miserable there (not sure how reliable it is - a friend of mine who's Russian knows people who know people who do stuff).

No he doesn't. By law, he must be paid in rubles.

That would be pretty horrible. IDC if he plays anywhere out west. If he wound up in Pittsburgh that would go from sweet dreams to the worst dream imaginable. But why Renny's convo. Do you mean Slats? Maybe Renney told him he was going to implement a defensive system, and Jagr wanted no part of it.

The only thing with Pittsburgh (I'm just talking here) is maybe they have something going with another team. Even if it's a bottom of the barrel team. Maybe Pit. has it worked out with the Oilers or another organization, in which they will throw many picks their way if they would claim Jagr off of waivers and send him over. Who knows? I'm sure there's always some type of loophole when it comes to Pittsburgh and the NHL's shining star, Sydney.

The thing I don't understand is that he is under contract with Omsk (I think that's the team) of the KHL. We all know how the KHL is in big competition with the NHL so I'm sure If Avery was a 3 step process. If Jagr really wants to head back west his situation would be a 3 to the 3rd or 4th power process, which would take a long time.

oilers could sign him to a Sundin like deal (6-7 mill pro-rated), not many teams have that cap space or would be willing to spend the cash (i.e. los angeles). I think if they wanted to make it happen its possible, not that I would like that.

I don't think that's a comparable scenario.

Sundin was just a UFA. He wasn't playing in Europe.

Yeah. The entire journalism industry.

Notice that this blog is on a reputable newspaper's website, written by a beat reporter. What does it matter what medium it's written in? If the dude chiseled it to a ******* rock, what difference would it make.

Don't blame the entire idea of blogging for shoddy journalism.

I don't understand Jagr going through waivers when he isn't playing on an NHL team or in this country. Aren't players put on waivers for other teams to pick them up when they're being dropped to the minors (provided it is a two-way contract)? I don't know how Jagr would be put on waivers. Wouldn't it just be discussing an entirely new contract?

Any player that plays in the khl or another european league during the nhl season has to clear waivers in order to play in the nhl in the same season. Thats why wade Dubi had to clear waivers when he signed with the islanders and the bluejackets claimed him. Sundin and shanny didnt have to clear waivers because they werent playing in another league. Now if this summer jagr decides to come back to the NHL for the 2009-10 season he would be free to sign with his team of choice and not have to go through waivers

On top of him not clearing waivers, doesn't he have to come to some sort of agreement with Omsk to leave first?

also, I do think that if Edmonton signs him to a crazy contract(what's their cap situation? if they're this desperate for Jagr they could sign him 1 year a lot of money to prevent teams from realistically claiming him). That way he'd pass through waivers.
