Is Backstrom as good as people make him sound? Minny plays a very defensive style. They win their games by a score of 2-1 or 1-0.

Biron won two rounds last year and was great against Montreal - which is substantially more than squat.

Very true but do you want to stake this playoff season on whether or not Biron can get hot.

Listen guys, I like Biron as much as the next guy, hell I even like Niity as much as the next guy but this team NEEDS a stud goalie. I have no problems moving either one of our goalies, prospects, Lupul or whatever it takes. If we can get a stud in the nets we get a cup and one hell of a good summer!

I dont know about that, but you could go to nhlnumbers.com of nhlscap.com and go team by team and look at which goalies are up.

I doubt this rumor is entirely true, but oh well.
They've soured FAST on every goalie they've had over the last 15-20 years. This is nothing new.

i'd love a trade for backstrom but i dunno if the wild need anything from the flyers. and if they trade backstrom, they'd be relying on harding or biron. dunno how chuffed they'd be to do that.

not quite sure what the market would be for a goalie who has struggled for the greater part of the year... even if it's true and they cant find sutors the writing is on the wall for him not re-signing here

Goalie coach Reggie Lemelin said Biron has some technical things to clean up -- being square to the shooter, etc. -- but mostly, Lemelin feels that Biron has been indecisive and hesitant instead of reacting to the moment.

"He looks good for awhile and then there's lapses along the way," Lemelin said. "You get caught in between. If you hesitate … Should I come out? Should I go paddle down? When you play and you’re sharp, everything happens automatically.

Biron admits he is lacking, "hunger for the puck."

"I know I look cool and calm, and I don’t go out and do crazy things, but in being calm and cool, you can be aggressive and have that fire," he said.

No kidding.

I always thought the media was suppose to report the story, not create it.

I'm really the first person to point it out? He has a NTC. Although if it seems like he's not going to be re-signed during the season, he might give a list of teams he would accept a trade to, and then execute a sign & trade. I smell more speculation with the current situation than actual shopping Holmgren is doing.

Not talking about as a franchise goalie, but if we want to only resign Niitty next year, would Scott Clemmensen be a good fit as a complement?

He's playing well for the Devils this year (23-11-1, 2.30, .92) and probably won't command a huge salary.

If Homer says "Marty, we have no intention of signing you, give me a list of teams", I think he'd waive the NTC. But last we heard, Homer wanted to re-sign Marty. So who knows.

Alot of these goalies on other teams play in schemes that are made for them. Goalie will never put up amazing stats here with the wide open scheme we have. I am not saying we can't have a better goalie, but teams like Minnesota run a defensive oriented system, we don't.
