Halak - what would it take?

Hey...what would you guys want from the Oilers for Halak?

What are your needs. I know your biggest need is a checking center since Lang went down..but we dont have a good one...any other holes in your team?

Thanks

Montreal's greatest need is on the blueline. A number 3 / 4 guy who can play on the PP.....Can you say Sheldon Sourray.....

We need a skilled centre with size and grit
We need a top 4 offensive D
We need a veteran backup goalie (to replace Halak)

Those are the holes right now

Can the Oilers let go Souray?

I'm not saying Souray for Halak straight up, but if it's a possibility, then there's really a deal to be made somewhere.

edited: ouch, he still signed for 4 years? He's not that interesting anymore.

Schremp?

Halak's dominated the AHL, so has Schremp. Halak is shaky in the NHL, so is Schremp. Good swap for both teams

I really don't see this happening, Oilers have enough trouble signing UFA. I don't think they'll be trading them away after a few months. Not exactly a good way to attract them in the future.

If we do trade Halak I'd like to see a good veteran goalie coming back to the Habs. Someone who can maybe play 20 games a year but can calm price down after a shaky start...think Andy Moog when he was with us.

What about Moreau + Staios + Roli?

I know moreau isnt a center, but hes got decent skill...good size, and a ton of grit.

Staios is an average number 4 dman that puts up a respectable 25ish pts

Thoughts?

What was the official reason why Souray left again? I can't remember anymore. Was it because of money or because he wanted to go out west?

It was length...the oil offered him one more year in the contract than MTL was willing to

Erik Cole is not what we need. He is fine as a complimentary player but he won't bring anything more than what we already have. Gilbert on the other hand wouldn't be a bad choice. Big right-handed D with good offensive instinct. I think he could flourish in Mtl.

Halak's value to the Habs is greater than anything they would get for him. We need him since Price is showing he can't be consistent on a regular basis.

The only way I see Halak traded to EDM would be in a package to get Cogliano or Grebeshkov.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind, he's really not the same player anymore. Pretty much a floater. Still drive the net though.. but ya.. complementary player.

Halak won't bring you Gilbert, forget about it, especially not with the season he's having and with the fact that the Oilers have just lost Visnovsky for the season.

Cole, on the other hand, is a UFA to be and would bring much needed grit.
