You just answered your own question. Burke will be trading most of his better assets (Antropov, Ponikarovsky, Kubina, etc) very soon and will need to replace these players with AHL Toronto Marlies call ups to fill out the roster.

By doing this maneuver, he almost guarantees the Leafs will tank further down in the standings.

You should retire from the Boards now.

Nice!!! If they make it, throw Mayars on the waiver wire and send down Mitchell so he can develop more in a better atmosphere because he is a great young kid!!

Of course, this is a rebuild after all. Why play 24 year old Mitchell over 30-something Devereaux?

So Mitchell can get more time in the Marlies while this team continues to fail?

Mayers has 2 goals this year, is a leader, and has surely helped the tank efforts, he stays for now.

Possibly, but it sure helps a guy's confidence to finally make the big club and I don't think his play warrants demotion. He should get used to 3rd/4th line minutes anyways, because, barring large improvements, that's where his NHL career will take place.

One could argue that if Devereaux were playing in the NHL, his value would be good enough to trade him, maybe for a 3rd or 4th.

You could argue that, but nobody would buy it.

Mitchell is a fine prospect and I like what he brings, but when push comes to shove, Devreaux is a better hockey player.

Now I understand the whole idea of a rebuild, but on this team and on any other NHL team, Mitchell is at best a fourth liner with potential to be a 3rd liner. Playing in the minors wouldnt hurt his development whereas, the plus of having Devereaux on the team is that he does become attractive to a team that needs an energy player who has great speed and is a good guy in the locker room.

Thats just my opinion.

Wow, you are so far off base it's pretty comical, I like Devereaux as much as the next guy, but he's a 30 yr old career fringe NHLer, who can skate. He's better then Mithcell? Maybe 2 years ago. We all know stats aren't everything but Mitchell has as many points in the NHL as Devereaux has in AHL. Devereaux is done as an NHLer.

Devereaux had 18pts. last year with the Leafs, and he's on a steady decline, there wouldn't be a GM on the planet that would give up a 3rd or a 4th for him, no matter if he played for the Leafs or the Marlies.

The Coyotes should pick them up and then send Mueller and Boedker down to join Turris in San Antonio. Might as well win the Calder Cup, the organization needs some winning tradition from somewhere.

I think it's dumb that Williams cleared in the first place so these two uselesses will most definitely clear.
