Good Article By the NYPost: Two Other Greats Deserve A Night

Agree?

So if, honoring one more player from 1994, hanging the No. 9 of one of the most popular and giving players in the team's history pushed management into doing the right thing by an accomplished previous Ranger No. 9, then that's a good thing. And it will turn into an even better thing if the Garden ever gets around to raising banners for Bill Cook and Frank Boucher.

LOL, MJ, I love that you actually put "copyright infringement" as the reason for editing.

Anyway, as far as Boucher and Cook... That's so damn old school, the vast, vast majority of fans never saw them play. I'm not saying that's an argument against raising their numbers, just that it's gotta be less likely since the fan base can't remember the players.

How about Jean Ratelle? He held season points record until Jagr broke it in 05-06. And he didn't even finish the season. Who knows, if he wasn't injured, the Curse would've been over in 72

Honest mistake...sorry.
I saw other threads quoting articles...so I figured this was fine.
I failed to see they quoted just parts not the whole article.

As to the poster who said Cook and Boucher were way too long ago, and nobody saw them play, I suppose then Babe Ruth's number shouldn't be retired?

If you actually read what I wrote, you'd understand that's not what I was arguing. I stated that explicitly. I just said that it's harder to motivate that type of action when the majority of the fan base is unfamiliar with the player.

Also Babe Ruth is Babe Ruth...one of the best to have ever played the game..in fact he's still the best with all the steroid allegations and reports these days. Fans dont have to have ever seen Ruth play because he is an icon for the sport of baseball today and will forever be linked to it.

I'm not saying these two rangers shouldnt have their numbers retired as well, but I do agree with 2k2 on this. It's going to be tough to get it all together and gather the interest for it since they played so long ago. I'm even wondering how Bathgate and Howell's ceremony is going to go because they too played a pretty decent amount of years ago.

Lester Patrick deserves more recognition, but not a retirement thing.

would love to see it along with ratelle. bathgate and howell being acknowledged is a good start and gives me hope the rangers could someday make this happen.

enough is enough with the stupid banner raisings. We might as well raise John Amirante's toupee to the rafters!

Agreed. In the interest of full disclosure, I never saw Boucher or Cook play, but c'mon. We should do what the Leafs do; "honor" the numbers where we raise a banner with their name and number, but not actually retire it.

Wow. A player who WON 2 stanley cups as a player and coached the 3rd cup team doesn't deserve this honor???

WTF. We only have 4 cups, and Frank Boucher won 3 of them. I don't effen get it.
