Jordan Staal and Ryan Whitney package

Just wondering what people think this package would return the Pens.

From a Leafs perspective I would be willing to offer this

To Toronto: Staal, Whitney and a 2nd

To Pittsburgh: Kaberle, Stalman, Stajan and Antropov

Stajan is a perfect fit as the Pens 3rd line center and Kaberle would be a good trade off for the disgruntled Whitney.

The Pens would also add another top 6 forward in Antropov who should be possible for them to re-sign in the off season.

If Staal and Whitney are packaged, two or three young top six wingers are coming back.

To Vancouver: Jordan Staal and Ryan Whitney

To Pittsburgh: Cory Schneider, Alex Elder and Steve Bernier

Vancouver prepares for the loss of the Sedin's next year to Toronto.

Vancouver Solid down the middle with Hodgson, Keslar and Staal. Vancouver then are able to re sign Ohlund.

Pittsburgh gets some needed strength on the wing someone to replace the streaky Fleury in goal and a solid young dman.

Wow Vancouver will be stuck with 3 centers that are going to struggle to score night-in and night-out.. I like that.

I would have to say that Shane Doan is the ultimate fit on the penguins and if Staal and Whitney were packaged, it would be a blockbuster trade

Staal
Whitney
Kennedy
Jeffery
2nd in 09
3rd in 09
2nd in 10

for

Doan
Reinprecht
Lisin
Tikhonov

My values:
Doan- Staal, two 2nds, Jeffery
Reinprecht- 3rd in 09, hes an UFA.
Whitney, Kennedy- Lisin, Tikhonov

Jordan Staal is a big, young, two-way center with a large upside signed long term with a $4 million cap hit starting next year. He is also a work-in-progress, who needs to improve his decision-making, learn to pass and become a consistent scorer. He undoubtedly has trade value. The same cannot be said of Whitney, who has talent, but appears to be regressing badly to the point he is being beaten regularly like a a drum. He too is signed long term at $4 million. Given his performance, his trade value currently is not much. In combination, the two account for $8 million in cap space, which is a big chunk to ask any team to gamble on.

I suggest that their value as a package may be less than Staal's value on his own.

Reinprecht lisin and tikhonov...... common. Doan is a borderline superstar.

I think Whitney Staal and two seconds for Reinprecht and Doan.

Probably not enough, but not horrible.

The Habs would have to add a 1st, I'd imagine.

You see a playoff team trading half of their top 6 wingers a month before the playoffs start?

Staal and Whitney to Ottawa for Heatley. That makes some sense.

Ottawa could offer their 2nd 1st round pick, Mike Fisher and Ilya Zubov.

Bernier can't be traded, he was signed with an offer sheet by the Blues, and we matched.

I wouldn't trade Ryan Whitney for Edler, I think Edler ceiling can be better than Whitney's.
