I stopped reading after that. If you think that YOUR opinion is gold, no sense even debating as I'm a strong believer that opinion are just that.
I hate to disagree, but this isn't quite true.
Williams Lake to Vancouver: 328kms
Williams Lake to Calgary: 569kms
Anahim Lake is 316kms west of Williams Lake, going away from Calgary.
Vancouver is a lot closer to Anahim Lake than Calgary is.
But Anahim Lake to Van. is 644 km - there's no road down the coast to Vancouver from Anahim Lake, so you have to loop around through Williams Lake and the interior. Trust me, it's a long drive, I've done it.
As for the game itself, Price has to start this game. Is it a good hockey decision to start Halak? Most likely. However, where Carbonneau is going wrong, is only seeing this game for this game. He's not considering potential repercussions.
Carbonneau has a young stud of a goaltender who is having confidence issues right now. After the kid rents a box for 40-50 of his family and friends, letting him play in front of that kind of support can only do good for his confidence. Meanwhile, sitting him for this game can only harm his confidence.
There are a few situations that are sometimes bigger than the game on the ice, and Carey Price's first game in BC is one of those things. If he's already played in Vancouver as a pro, then fine, make this decision and nobody will argue. For the first time, when you know half of GM Place is there to see one player, you play him.
A 2nd-year goalie telling a coach that he should not play that game???
That's a easy recipe to get yourself kicked off the team pretty quickly.
It takes at least 10 years of all-star worthy hockey before a player can even think of questioning a decision by a coach. Carey Price (6.5 gpg since all-star break) is in NO situation, and Halak (backup goalie) isnt either.
It was hypothetical and maybe slightly sarcastic...just one Hab fan (me!) trying to have fun with his imagination!!
But, just imagine though (for fun)...Halak politely asking/requesting (not demanding) for Price to play since it's in front of his family/friends!! "I'll wait for my next turn!!" (that would be quite original, no?!). But of course, Halak must be starving for some limelight, and it was only MORE than fair after making (approx.) 45 saves.
