Av's shopping Smyth

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/col090215.html

According to the fourth period, they are shopping Ryan Smyth.

Do you think it would benefit the Rangers and Avs if we could some how swing a Drury for Smyth trade?

Personally I think it would be good for both teams.

Contract is 6.25 through 11-12 according to hockeybuzz capcentral.

Drury is not going to waive his NMC. This is the team he's always wanted to play for and he's wearing the C.

With the way this team is going, you really think so?

Don't you think he would be given the C next season in Colorado because Sackics time is coming...

Up until last week, I would have agreed, I think Drury would waive his clause. I bet of Glen approached him with an opportunity, he would consider it. Boyhood dream or not.

Smyth would not succeed here, think about this, when you think of Smyth you think guy who parks in front of the net deflecting shots or passes. On a team that has a poor power play he will not succeed. I can see it now "Smyth sucks what does do he's over paid".

If Chris Drury's boyhood dream was to captain the New York Rangers you would think he'd be playing a lot harder than he is.

I can say for a fact that if I was captaining the Rangers I'd leave my heart and soul on the ice game in and game out for my team, and the fans. Something I don't think Drury is doing.

So atleast for me that story is getting hard to believe.

Drury has a NMC... It isn't happening.

Asking him to waive his NMC would be a huge mistake also... you aren't supposed to do that.

I also do not see Drury waiving his NMC, not this early in his contract at least.

I don't think Smyth would be amazingly affective but he'd still be much better than anything we've got. We'd score more goals, not that it's saying much.

Sarcasm? Remember this is the internet and it is undetectable.

If it's not sarcasm, then I might just ask you the same question.

If never scoring, playing lazy D, and constantly staring at the puck is playing real hard... then yeah, he sure is.

But about this particular topic... I see no reason to trade Drury for Smyth.

Even if Drury waived his NTC, I don't see how this would help us. Smyth is good for standing in front of the net while the defense shoots the puck....are defense just likes to pass it around all day. When they do decide to start shooting its usually with 5min to go in the third period when where down by 2 or more

i would keep drury, smyth isn't the answer on offense. waste of a trade..

plan and simple we need a scorer-and a top scorer. like either kovalchuk or gaborik

even if that is also trading includes some of our youth & a big gun or two.. worth it...

I'd send Gomez instead of Drury. I think Drury and Smyth would benefit from each other. Smyth causes havoc in front, therefore leaving Drury room to find a loose puck and score those clutch goals.

would colorado do it is the question.... unless sakic for sure isnt coming back I don't know what they feel like have a 7.3MM 3rd line center next year. If he's done, then a 1-2 of stastny/gomez is pretty decent, but who's playing on the wings (wolski, svatos, hejduk are their only top 6 cailber forwards i can think of)? I think we'd have to send prucha over to them as well (which i wouldnt be opposed to), but then prob take some kind of salary dump back.

so something like

prucha, gomez

for

smyth, arnason, 3rd.

waive arnason, bring up avery

I don't think he'd go to Colorado to chase another captaincy. Not to mention they already have Stastny as their #1 center with Sakic gone and Wolski is proving to be more effective as a center than he was as a wing. Just because he played there before doesn't mean he wants to go back.

If I had the privilege of working my way through the NHL and finally wound up on the Rangers, I'd do whatever it took to stay there. Drury is a competitor and I don't see him giving up on this team after half a season at the helm. It makes no sense.

Not to mention I highly doubt a team wants that contract right now.
