That's the problem for the Stars this season, as a whole, which will be for that pairing as well.

Consistency.

yeah Robi definetly got away with one there, but so did many players on both teams.

Dallas won that game on the 2 minute PK in OT. that's usually a death sentence.

Grossman and Fistric would be a great defensive pairing, but that is like a drop in a bucket of offense. It was painful to see Fistric do anything with the puck at the point.

The game, as usual, was won on special teams.

Yes, Columbus statistically beat the Stars in that regard. But the Jackets had at least 3 PPs in the last 15 minutes of the game (10 + OT), that Dallas killed all off.

What a turn around for the PK lately.

Dallas has killed off 22 of their last 23 penalty kills.

They're defensemen. They're not signed to score goals.

They're signed to shut down the other team's top guys. Tonight, the sophomores did just that.

Yeah, possibly a couple trips you got away with in the closing seconds of regulation, but those are tough calls to make.

Great game, Turco will haunt my dreams tonight. Why we didn't use Umberger in the shoot out, I have no idea.

The only good thing that comes from this going to a shoot out, is that it puts Anaheim in 8th. And with an Edmonton win, they could be out of the top 8.

How great that would be.

Okay... I know that...

But if you have zero puck-moving ability/scoring-threat at the point, the other team can cheat defensively and clog things up for the forwards.

I'm not saying they shouldn't pair them. They obviously did a nice job of limiting Columbus's top line. I'm just saying there is some glaring disadvantages of pairing two all-defensive defensemen.

I see your point, no doubt. Has Fistric scored an NHL goal yet?

I know we had Grossman's first of the regular season, earlier in the year.

You might not mean it this way, but I really hate the stereotype that big physical D can't/aren't puck-movers. Grossman and Fistric move the puck intelligently, quickly, and with accuracy.

TSN just called for a broken wrist for Richards, during the NSH/OTT game.

Double edit: Ahh, TSN is using an AP/CP report, which means it was most likely announced at the post-game presser. Disregard what was once here.

It's TSN.

They also bashed Brunnstrom for being hurt (obviously not the reason he was sent down to the minors).

And for something else, that escapes my mind right now.

Hi guys!

Great games. I would love to see a 7 game between our two teams. They are always entertaining games. Congrats on the win. I am sorry about Richards. He is a phenomenal player and I hope you have him back as soon as possible. I will say what I posted on our board. I never like to see anyone's players hurt or injured unless it is Chris Pronger. Good luck the rest of the year.

Thanks for the kind words.

Good luck to you guys on the rest of your season and your fight for the playoffs. Make sure you knock Anaheim out.

We have a group going to the game against Anaheim on Saturday including Oilers fans of ours that live in Kentucky and are driving up. We are calling it Hatefest '09. We picked a game where we knew we could both hate the other team equally.

Well, it looks like the team will be going down the stretch with 17.25 million worth of talent missing.

Guess you can welcome back the impotent power play.

Their problem isn't moving the puck up to the forwards or making a pass it's once it's in the zone they are clueless offensively. Neither has a good shot. Neither is very accurate and neither has the offensive instincts to make a play in the zone, ie know when to shoot or pass or heck even skate the line for a better shot.

My gripe with this pairing isn't that they are bad, they most certainly were not but that by pairing them together you still saddle Niskanen with Sydor. Who for reasons passing understanding were out there killing penalties early. Niskanen can't contain Umberger for crying out loud, how's he going to do with someone like Clowe, Nash, Doan, Dustin Brown or Cory Perry? Don't you almost have to break them up so that one of them can play with Niskanen and do the things he is incapable of doing?

Niskanen-Grossman
Robidas-Daley
Fistric-Hutchinson

It's the only way to maximize the strengths of all the players without exposing their weaknesses too. Now I don't expect Tippet to bench Sydor but goals like that Umberger one or the Lisin one from the Phoenix game will continue to be scored as long as he's put on the ice.

Two questions.

In a tight game where you need both points why do you bench a guy that can actually score? Brunnstrom didn't play the final seven minutes of regulation or in OT. Barch got shifts. Sutherby, Peterson and Lundqvist all got shifts but the kid who has shown he can score sees the bench. Why haven't we fired Tippet again?

If Richards is out for six weeks, who do you call up? Let's assume Wandell is out. His Swedish team probably won't let him go for that long. Conner? Oh god please no. Lindgren? He's back in Finland and can't score there. Sawada? Maybe, but has he shown he deserves to be called up? There's no way they'd bring back Avery, right? What do you do and what are your line combinations going forward?
