Simone Gagne to Edmonton

I'm curious what it would take to get Gagne in a Edmonton Oilers uniform?
I realise his value is extremly high.

I'd assume more then anyone would want to give up. As well I'm sure he has a NTC.

You could start by sending Hemsky the other way.

Lots of oiler proposals come up that involve high end players coming to edmonton but oiler fans refuse to send out hemsky or gagner, resulting in proposals that may never happen

He's not on the market. He's playing great hockey for the Flyers and will be valuable in the playoff hunt. His value is going to be skewed because of his value to the Flyers right now, so the judgement of his worth would likely be more than what Edmonton would want to give up.

Oilers won't trade Hemsky for Gagne because Hemsky is a) younger, b) cheaper, and c) producing on an equal level. There isn't a real opportunity for a deal to transpire between these two teams involving these two players since it would be a trade for the sake of making a trade. It would have no real purpose for either side. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Got to make sure Gagne is willing to play there. It won't be very nice if he asks to leave from that city.

I'd say something with Gilbert and Nash as listed above, it won't be easy as Gagne has really stepped up his career.

The reason I'm 100% sure Gagne won't be traded is because the Flyers really want to move Briere, Knuble and Jones in the off-season. I sincerely expect at least two of those three to be gone after this season, and they'll have Gagne, Richards and Carter penciled in as their big 3 for the next 5+ yrs.

Well not that it would happen, but Hemsky wouldn't be a starting point. Gagne would be a starting point to land Hemsky. I'd offer something like.

Grebs + Cole + Nilsson

for

Gagne + 3rd

That would be an awful trade for Philadelphia. Not even close to Gagne's value.

Cole and Nilsson? Do you honestly think that would land Gagne, let alone a 3rd? I think you're overvaluing your players a bit...

Well, you could just remove that pesky r from the end of a certain jersey and you have your Gagne for free...

In all seriousness though, there is no way Gagne waives his NTC to go to Edmonton. Purely hypothetical though, I would say you start with Hemsky+Petry and then tweak on either side.

This is why Oiler fans should stop with proposals. Near all of them end up with requests for Hemsky+ or Gagner+. It isn't even worth the discussion, imo.

Not at first glance. But you havta realize that Grebs has really stepped it up this year. And the trade would only be for 2 years of Gagne. There is no chance he would resign in Edmonton.

2 years of Gagne for 1 year of Cole, terrible Nilsson, and Grebeshkov. No thanks. Really, "only" two years of a 70+ point player?

Just because he has no value to the Oilers doesn't mean he has no value to the Flyers. That should be an indication that such a trade is never going to happen.

I try not to post on trade rumors much, but I think this goes for all fans not just Oiler fans. Half of the players in these deals really have no reason to be traded.

no. Please, do tell me WHY we would trade Simon or WHY he would waive his NTC to go to Edmonton, where frankly nobody wants to go.

You'd really have to convince Al Pacino to give her up and I don't think it is possible.

In my opinion Gagne is a lifetime Flyer. and has a NTC. But if he were to agree to a trade and assuming oilers wont be sending Hemsky back it would have to have at least one of gagner/cogliano/eberle and high picks.

We downgrade from Gagne to Cole, add a defenseman that doesn't fill a need, and take on an inconsistent player like Nilsson? No thanks.

Because the entire thread was based on the premise of Gagne being traded and how much it would cost to acquire him from Edmonton's perspective?

Instead of flaming a person for creating a fantasy trade that would never happen and pretending like you're Holmgren and actually know what the true trade values are for any of these players, why don't you counter with a better offer instead?

'Cause it's a hell of a lot better than Philly?
