Therrien to Tampa Bay?

Seeing as how they seem to love everything Penguin related down there why not bring their ex-coach in as well? The Lightning figure to be getting younger and younger as the Stamkos era ushers in, and Therrien is a proven success with young players. He seems to get players on the right track for their careers.

I don't know how LeCavlier, St Louis, and Malone might feel about that idea though.

Tocchet is doing a great job BTW.

Its not gonna happen. Tocchet will most likely get the interim tag removed in the offseason. He has done a good job and the players like him. He deserves a full year with a regular training camp to try and see what he can do as a coach.

BTW...the Stamkos era wont start for about another 7 to 10 years. As long as Vinny is here and playing like Vinny, this is his team.

I'd rather have a coach that has actually won a Stanley Cup...Peter Laviolette come on down. I'm still hoping we bring him in, although I do like and respect Tocchet at the same time.

Oh and mark my words...with in three years everyone will be talking how great that 1-2 punch of Lecavalier - Stamkos is down the middle as Stamkos will mature into one hell of an NHL player. It will be the Lecavalier-Stamkos era.

Crossing the blueline and then circling around or blind drop-passing between his legs? Missing on breakaways over and over?

...and yes, I'm just messing around.

Give Tocchet atleast until the end of next season. Let him run a camp the way he wants rather than the outdated drills Melrose ran and see what he does. By the end of next year if there is little or no improvement then make a move.

No thanks, Toc is doing a great job and I can't wait to see what he does with this team next season when he has a full training camp to work with.

Would you prefer that they get their coaches from in front of Home Depot each day?

Coaching professional hockey and migrant farming are surprisingly similar, if you think about it.

Not sure what you're getting at, but.....I don't see a reason for yet another coaching change in a season that's done/over/wasted. These guys don't have the pockets to pay Tortorella, Melrose, Tocchet, and another new coach.

I was nitpicking on you saying "another coach with a contract".

As if there's a way to get a coach without one, like a day laborer.

Basically I said what fell out of my mouth.

As for your argument itself...we don't know how much money KB has in the bucket. An NHL coach makes normally around 1-1.5 million. (Gretzky makes like 7 or 8, but I digress) Tocchet is still technically an interim HC, I would be under the impression that his contract is only for this year. Assuming he had signed a new deal to accept the interim head coaching job. It's just conjecture though.

If they decided to get someone new for the rest of the season, it'd be on a prorated contract for the rest of this season, so it doesn't become as massive an investment.

Some of the coaches might have had a clause in their contracts that, if fired, would allow the club to stop paying them. Walz is breaking in, so he might have one. I would assume an interim coach contract would be the same.

At any rate, if the team decides they undeniably need a new HC, they won't hesitate to do so.
