Cheechoo to NYR

His cap hit is 3/yr for 2 more years after this one. I know his stats are down but he did win the Richard Trophy. I know he played with Thornton that year. I'd like to see the Rangers take a chance if they can. What would it take or is it even possible.

The general consensus is that Cheechoo will not be moved till the offseason,so unless the Rangers are willing to overpay now then I do not think they can get him.

Since I like to play the "let's make a deal" game, Sharks needs:

At the trade deadline:
- Veteran 3rd line center (or fwd), gritty/competitive, good on faceoffs
- Depth dman for 3rd pairing... stay-at-home, good outlets, good PKer
- Sharks have very little cap space so can't take on more salary

At the draft deadline (assuming Clowe re-signs):
- a decent pick (2nd) and prospect

I'll take a look at the Rangers to see what might work.

Based on what you said: Betts, Mara and #2 for Cheech?

Perhaps Paul Mara, a pick, and a mid level prospect?

Why do the Sharks need any of that? They just need to get healthy and they will have that. 3rd line center can be any one of Jeremy Roenick, Marcel Goc, Tomas Plihal, or Torrey Mitchell once they get healthy. Depth defenseman is Brad Lukowich when he comes back. The Sharks have no roster needs except to get healthy.

PF's right - forgot to add, dealing Cheechoo at the deadline isn't necessary so the deal would have to be phenomenal for the Sharks.

Mara should not be traded at all considering the players on this team who should be moved before him.

Yes, but those players (Drury, Gomez, Redden, Voros, Kalinin, Prucha, et al) have little to zero value. Therefore, if we're gonna move a guy, it'll probably be somebody like Mara.

Should be moved and can be moved are two very different things.

Maybe because your team chokes it up and stinks in the post season every year?

Of course they do, you hate the Rangers. However, if they were on another team like the Oilers, they would all have a lot of value.

Isn't Cheechoo sorta like West Coast Prucha at this point.

except, Cheechoo is 3 short of having more goals in 1 season than Prucha has had in his career. Not to mention the fact Cheechoo is solid defensively, adds grit, and has work ethic.

Funny comment by someone whose team hasn't made it out of the second round since Gretzky and Messier were on the team...

Someone who is fan of a team which couldn't even make the playoffs for quite a few years while having one of - if not the biggest - budget in the league, really shouldn't comment on another team "choking".

Ok, tell me who exactly is knocking down Glen Sather's door asking for Wade Redden...

Because of those guys' contracts, they'll only get moved for a serious underpayment. Guys like Voros, Prucha, and Kalinin that I mentioned suck to much (Except Petr, he's just under-used) to have any value to a team anyways.

I'm not Prucha's biggest fan, but his work eithic is surpassed by no one.

Prucha has a great work ethic. He is Mr Hustle and would be an instant fan fave in SJ, just like he is in NY

Although it's been discussed in great lengths both Cheechoo and Marleau haven't been traded from SJS and I don't think that's going to change.
