I'd love to see Staal on the Oilers. How about...

To PIT: Nilsson, Cogliano, Peckham

To EDM: Staal

Salary wise its a wash this year, next year saves the Pens 1 mil and they have 2 top6 forwards instead of 1. Nilsson is a guy that could excel playing with the skill of Malkin or Crosby. Cogliano is one of the fastest players in the league. Neither have the size or completeness of Staal's game, but both (if played with one of the big 2) should easily outproduce Staal numbers wise.
done. I love it!

From a Leafs perspective I would be willing to offer this

To Toronto: Staal, Whitney and a 2nd

To Pittsburgh: Kaberle, Stalman, Stajan and Antropov

Stajan is a perfect fit as the Pens 3rd line center and Kaberle would be a good trade off for the disgruntled Whitney.

The Pens would also add another top 6 forward in Antropov who should be possible for them to re-sign in the off season.
I will give you Plekanec, Kovalev and your choice of Bouillon,OByrne,M.Carle.

You would rather keep staal and whitney then trade them to get Heatley to play on the wing with either crosby or malkin? What are you f*%&ing high or something? Stall is never going to accumulate the amount of points that he has the potential to playing on pittsburghs third line with no scoring wingers on his line and pitt has plenty of dman that would fill in for whitney so they can affford to lose both to get a legit 40-50 goal/year scorer to play with crosby or malkin.

Heatley or Perry for those two.

Get real.

They are worth less together than they are apart due to high salary for unproven players.

Pitt should trade them each for a younger winger or defensive defensemen.

And, lol, they are not together worth anything near Perry or Heatley.

Staal worth young blue chip winger, Whitney worth top 4 d-man or 2nd line winger.

Getting Heatley is the last thing that the Pens need to do. For a team that is up against the cap trading two guys that combine for 8M to get one guy that makes 7.5M is stupid. Whitney's replacement would have to make .5M just to make the salaries a wash.

Considering the fact that half this board thnks that the Pens need to trade Malkin because of the Cap, what do you think adding Heater would do to the Cap?

How about Olli Jokinen, Ed Jovanonski 3rd round pick?

Yeah... a top 6 center and a defensively suspect PP quarterback with a bad contract, that's what we need. That's why we want to trade Staal and Whitney. How bloody retarded can one be!?

Personally I think the two, if both are traded, should be traded separately, because we should not try to get one big player back. We cannot pay the salary we'd need to for a big name player.

Instead, I would much rather look for trades where we are dealing the better player - getting volume and future back, rather than lateral moves in different positions (unless of course moves likes Whitney plus a non-1st round pick for Horton or something comes up). Like, Whitney for prospect and pick. Staal for prospect, signed role player on good contract and pick.

These are the kind of moves where we can surround Crosby and Malkin with quality - budding ones in the trades themselves or in the UFA market with the cap space it frees up.

Its puzzling to see how people are so gangbuster on seeing us pile assets up for a big name sniper, yet at the same time think that having two major salaries together in Crosby and Malkin is an insurmountable challenge. You wonder why it would be better after you gutted all your quality depth to get a third major contract....

Staal and Whitney to Ottawa for Heatley. That makes some sense.
I kinda hate to say this, but yeah, it does.

If I was a Sens fan I would probably want something added to it, but its close. As a Pens fan, I dread looking at the rest of the lineup having to pay 24.9 million for just three players in the top6.

A 1st? HAHA.

Staal is a great player possibly worthy of playing 1st line center in the near future. He just hasn't been given the chance because of Malkin and Crosby being in his way.

I made a comment in the Staal should be traded thread that Staal and Whitney would make a great package for Bouwmeester if Pittsburgh can sign J-Bo long term
