Luc Bourdon

Would have been 22 today

Burrows had a couple points last night, lets see a big game from Burrows and a big win from the Canucks in Calgary tomorrow in Bourdon's memory.

This song was written about Dan Snyder, but it fits here too:

Here's a glue guy performance god
a makeshift shrine newly lain sod
hardly even trying gives the nod
I sure hope I'm not the type to dwell
hope I'm a fast healer fast as hell
heaven is a better place today because of this
but the world is just not the same
if and when we get into the endzone
act like you've been there a thousand times before
don't blame don't say people lose people all the time anymore.

A toonie to the busker and a husky 'keep it comin' under my breath
but then said, 'though, if you wouldn't mind,
less crying and more trying more trying and less crying'
I'm not the type to dwell
I'm a fast healer fast as hell
heaven is a better place today because of this
but the world is just not the same
oh if and - if and when we get into the endzone
act like you've been there a thousand times before
don't blame don't say people lose people all the time anymore.

If and when we get into that endzone
act like you've been there a thousand times before
don't change but don't say people lose people all the time anymore.

It's just not the same because of this
It's not the same

Tried to find a youtube of it but couldn't.

Happy Birthday, Luc.

Painful memories.

Bourdon would have been extremely useful to have on the team right now.

But more than that, the kid is the same age as me. It just kind of blows me away when someone who is my age passes away.

Has "Freakonomics" ever been mentioned?

I recall reading somewhere - it may have been on these boards - that a very large portion of NHLers are born between January and March. Has to do with their placement in divisions as children growing up. Those born within this monthly age group tended to be the older, stronger kids (presumably if kids group together by birth year). Probably got coaches who favoured them along the way, sort of snowball effect.

It's something to consider.

Also, happy b-day Luc. Forever a Canuck.

I agree with what parabola is saying, Luc would've been a big help on this squad and it is really terrible that all this happened right when his career was about to take off.

Happy birthday, we all miss you Luc.

I always catch myself thinking of what could have been with this young man.

I still remember the day it happened, saw Bourdon's face on TSN mainpage, though he had been traded, but then was just floored at what the headline said.

RIP.

I remember an anonymous Canuck fan posted that Luc had been killed. Without a source, we all thought he was joking. Such a horrible day that was .

Yeah, Malcolm Gladwell has a chapter in his new book "Outliers" about this as well, I heard him being interviewed on the radio about this. It seems like a total waste for thousands of kids to not have a fair chance to develop because of their birthdate.

But as to the OP, sad to think that such a young person died so early. From a Canucks standpoint, a big loss to the franchise too.
