The famous Montreal Canadiens Depth

Where is this depth we have been talking about ? Now that we are seriously in peril of missing the playoffs we still have a defenseman playing forward. If O'by is the best callup the Habs have, where is this so called great depth everyone has been talking about ? i know about D'ago, and Patches but where is this famous depth ? just curious !

We got Kovy, Lang, Latendresse, Serge K and Tanguay out, and we still manage to have two potent first line.

exactly depth is suppose to show when their is injuries, stop using this excuse. The ruins have had just as many injuries to important players as we have and look at them ! i am not sold on this depth when we still have a D playing forward when we need scoring badly. oh well i might just be grasping at straws here. We only have 3 players we can use Patches, Dago, Oby.

Take a look at the AHL rookie scoring leaders. At one point the Habs had Maxwell, Pacioretty, Desharnais, Weber, and White in the top 30 or so with O.Lats if you take his pro rated numbers he would be right up there with them.

The problem is these guys aren't ready this year, but the hope is that some of them will be as they get more experience. Then you add guys like Subban, McDonagh, Fischer, etc.... each year to hopefully add more depth.

ok fair enough, but i believe they were talking about depth for this year. We still don't have scoring depth for right now.

Not many teams have 2 players are good as D'Ago and Pac in their farm team. These 2 guys are getting the job done offensively, but when you've got 4 forwards out at the same time you cant expect to have 4 20-25 goals scorer waiting in the farm team.

Look at Hamilton and Habs players under 23, that's the depth coming up. Look at our injuries and where we are in the standings, that's the depth we have.

The fact that we can still ice a decent looking team with Lang, Tanguay, Latendresse, S Kostitsyn and Kovalev out should make it clear. Do we need to have an equal amount of bodies ready in the AHL as we do playing in the NHL?

On top of the call ups that are here, we still have the 2nd highest scoring rookie in AHL - Maxwell who is on his way, Weber breaking Defense records in Hamilton and making the all star team in his first year as a pro, and Stewart, Henry and Denis have been called up as well. What more do you need?
If were talking about next year though, that's a scary thought.

They just held onto the 8th seed last year (with injuries). Preety similar situation if you ask me.

Send a message via MSN to cap10bfl
tanguay koivu dagostini
a.kostitsyn plekanec patches
higgins lang s.kostitsyn
latendresse lapierre kostopoulos

thats some freaking good lineup lines without kovalev if everyone wasnt hurt or sergei wasnt a dumbass

so yes we have great depth, just with injuries and demotions/''resting'', our lineup looks bad, having supposively 5 top 9 players out does hurt a little dont ya think

At the beginning of the year, we had a lineup with 9 top6 forwards:

Higgins-Koivu-Tanguay
Andrei-Plekanec-Kovalev
Latendresse-Lang-Sergei

Over the course of the year:
Higgins - Injured
Koivu - Injured
Tanguay - Injured
Andrei - Injured
Plekanec - Underperformed & Suspended
Kovalev - Underperformed
Latendresse - Injured
Lang - Injured
Sergei - Underperformed

...that's what happened to our depth. The fact that we have iced 2 offensive lines all season is actually a testament to our depth.

I think he's hoping that every other poster is as fanatic as him, constantly throwing flowers at their idols and only commenting on how nice life is with the players and fans in a happy happy joy joy fashion. You get those kind of comments all the time for starting negative threads on this board btw

Hmm maybe that's why I'm not a fan

This is a good discussion thread, thanks.
