I wonder what we'd have to add, that's the biggest question.

Any thoughts?

You hit it on the head. It'd never happen. Peca, Picard and a pick or a prospect would be the best you'd get.

If it's to Columbus, Peca, but especially Malhotra, would be welcome additions, Peca for his leadership, Malhotra for the whole package... but instead of Picard, I'd really like if they could get Chimera and/or Tollefsen... well, especially Chimera ! Picard, I don't care...

I think habs fans are going to be pleasantly surprised at what Kovalev is going to fetch(if he is traded). A first pick will be in the cards..

I guess its believable. Not everyone watches him night in night out. Plus and Jones said, his upside is incredible. I just dont want to face him in the playoffs, he would single-handedly beat us just to shove it in our face.

Likely a first in the East, meaning it won't be a first we'd receive

I don't think it's a completely ridiculous offer. Columbus has a lot of quality forward prospects, not so great defense. Montreal has just as many quality defensive prospects, could use help up front. McDonogh is the ideal Hitchcock type of player, very good defensively. I think we may have to add a couple picks in there as well, but it's not an instant refusal by Columbus.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned R.J. Umberger to any possible trades with columbus. Remember him...he's the guy that burned us in the playoffs last year against philly.

Maybe because Columbus wouldn't trade him for a UFA veteran?

Just because a guy burned us in the playoffs doesn't mean he'd fit well on our team. I don't get that with people. Hey, Martin Biron won that series for Philly. We should trade Price for him!

yes it is . Derick Brassard is a very good prospect and they won't trade him for a soon to be UFA and a prospect that is having a hard sophomore season .

I don't hate Kovalev as much as some other posters but at this point I really want to see him traded, if only because he's a distraction to the team. I think he's right about the young guys' lifestyle having a bad influence on the team but he's not exactly the best influence himself.

hey, i was wondering, would you Trade Kovy for Satan and a pick?

and if not, what would you want that's not ridiculous, like staal, from the pens?

in that case Satan and Chris Minard, he's a pretty good skater who's a grinder, currently in the minor league b/c there's no room in the line up

That's a realistic return for Kovalev. If we include a prospect, I would suspect a pick (1st or 2nd) also coming our way.

Let's just say that it would be a Gainey-like trade... and it would save some serious cap space for a more major deal.

Not mine. We'd trade one floater for another. How exactly does that help us?
