coffey vs bourque

i don't know how to make a poll but it would be interesting i would say coffey he was better in prime by quite a bit also bourque never once broke the 100 point mark where coffey did it 3 times in a row borque did have 48 more points in his career but also played 203 more games any thoughts and if someone can make this poll that would be great

I've added a poll for you...

Personally I'd choose Bourque, as he IMO was quite a bit better defensively and more well rounded than Coffey.

Bourque. But not by much. Coffey had more offence and could rush a puck like no one ever besides maybe Orr. He wasnt as bad defensively as people think. There was no one who could outskate Paul Coffey. Not Sergei Makarov, not Mike Gartner, no one.

But I think Bourque put up more consistent numbers. Look at all of the 80 and 90 point seasons he put up in his career. He was a rock that way. And he was more responsible in his end. I like Coffey but by a slight margin I'll take Ray

Bourque easily. I love Coffey and he was a big part of the pens early 90s success, but Bourque is much better defensively, and has more points than Coffey. Bourque also never played with the same amount of offensive talents like Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Lemieux, Jagr, Francis, Yzerman, Fedorov, etc. Coffey was great offensively, but he had a lot of help.

Of course I would take Bourque, my fovourite player of all time. Great defence and offence, and a whole lot of leadership.

seeing that A) Paul Coffey was my idol as a kid and that B) I love offence, I say Coffey.

Bourque was no question the better defender, and had greater longevity. But Coffey as an offensive D was 2nd only to Orr (not even Potvin). Coffey's defensive play was also always under-rated b/c his offensive game got so much more notice. One of the best skaters and puck handlers of his time. All of this to say, Coffey's D game was very good, not elite by any means.

So I take Coffey, but its a photo-finish. Both these guys are among the very best D-men ever.
