Lang and Schneider

Under the assumption that schneider plays decently, would you resign him and Lang to deals next year? Lang played well, and if schneider plays like he did in detroit and anahiem, I'd certainly consider extending them for a year. It's obviously a matter of price, so if you would sign them, what price would you do it for? It's prob 3 mil each for me on a 1 year deal.

It's too early to tell whether I will want Schneider back next year, but I would consider signing Lang to a one year deal next season at perhaps 2.5-3.0m.

No and no...they're stopgap measures, not long term solutions or even solutions that need to be repeated even if proven moderately successful.

I agree, but we'll need a center. Have you looked at the list of UFA centers available this off-season?

Schneider said he'd like to play a few more years.

If the price is right, then sure. Maybe... I'm not sure.

You have to consider that many teams would rather take youth and skip on the risky veterans. In this particular case, we have a young team, and Lang and Schneider are all smiles and production players, good leaders, good team guys. IMO, having guys like that are key pieces, it's more than their leadership qualities and their production, it's the need the team has. We have only one true offensive d-man and we have no big centers. Having both at short term deals would be excellent. Our d-core is better with schneider, there's no denying it. Not to mention, with the loss of perhaps, kovalev, boullion, dandenault, begin and so on, we can take that extra little cash left over on these bargain deals and make a pitch for a elite player july 1st. A hossa or gaborik for instance. Obviously, it's Gainey's call, but having some potentially baragain deals for 2 players with gas left in the tank would help address other needs and help us out.

Personally i think it's way too early to even justify thinking about resigning 39 yo players. Wait and see how all this turns out for BG with the UFA's and see what the Habs needs are during the summer. Lang was doing pretty well before being injured
(as a matter of fact he was our best point getter), lets get through this disaster of a season and define our needs. I like Lang and have always liked Matty.

Too early to say for both, especially Lang, who knows who our top 2 centers are even going to be.

We'll see about Schneider at the end of the year, but I still think he's a really good player. I wanted him all last summer. If last night is any indication, this guy is not just some 39 year old geezer who doesn't know when to quit. Live legs and very smart.

Agreed, if we can't do any better sure I'd resign them maybe for another year apiece at the right price of course.

If Schneider would like to finish his career where he started and will take a modest salary to play another year or so in Montreal, sure. Schneider is the perfect vet to groom players like Weber and McDonagh. If anyone saw the interview with Bogosian when Schneider was traded, he said that he was learning so much from him. Schneider can still play and if he comes affordable, yes.

Schneider could be that D-men coach that we badly need.

I would let Schneider go and try to sign a guy like Beauchemin instead. Younger and plays the same kind of game.

Hopefully Saku returns, but we need something else in the middle.

I checked out the last...it's not 100% of up to date but ugh...not very pretty.

Fully agree 100%. So what if Lang was pretty much our best player on the team till he got hurt. We don't need such insignificant a player. I think we can all agree that Plekanecs is fully ready to take up any slack that Lang brought along...errr....
