Eklund: ESPN to take big games including stanley cup finals next season

Ah, the good ol times. The NHL on espn.....I hope Gary Thorne returns, I'm sure he will. He's the best play by play IMO.

This will be good, in fact....this will be great for the game of hockey & the NHL. Let's hope it's true.

That would be great news for the NHL.

We need to get back on ESPN.

Wasn't expecting the 94 cup to be moment #1.....thats pretty freakin sweet haha.

The NHL should have never left ESPN. How could show such boring sports like golf over hockey!? So hopefully, in addition to having games on MSG and VS, and with the occassional NBC and ESPN game thats at least around 15-20 more games to watch a year of out of market games

The NHL did not LEAVE ESPN. ESPN did not give the NHL an offer. That's when NHL went to OLN / VS. Now ESPN wants the NHL back.

^^^ They did give the NHL an offer, but it was basically no guaranteed money and ESPN would get to decide how many games they wanted to air
---------------------------------------------

For as much as people rag on the contract with Versus, it may have worked out great for the NHL if ESPN wants them back and is willing to pay well for it.

Remember when the NHL left ESPN, it was because ESPN was offering them crap and basically wasn't guaranteeing them anything. Now the NHL is more sought after and going back to ESPN might result in more and better coverage

I think the extra coverage they would do is most exciting. Look what they do with nascar, they cover it like crazy as if it were a sport. Sportscenter, espnews, pre games, post games, dedicated hockey shows, that would be amazing.

Versus usually only has the first two games of the finals, and the remaining five (if it lasts that long) are on NBC prime time.

haha. I remember the days he used to do the play by play for the Devils with commentator Peter Mcnab. The Debbies were so horrible back then (yes, actually there was a time, the Devils were among the NHl's worst). I like Gary as an announcer though. Thorne > Rosen. I think. Time for a change.
