Greatest Rangers By Number - #2

Since #1 was a blowout. We'll go with #2.

#1 - GIACOMIN, Ed

#2 -
COULTER, Art
EDDOLLS, Frank
HARVEY, Doug
HILLMAN, Wayne
IRWIN, Ivan
LAIDLAW, Tom
LEETCH, Brian
PARK, Brad
SEIBERT, Earl

This one should be a two horse race, although I think Leetch pulls it out handily.

Not that I can concieve of anyone voting other than Leetch but people should keep in mind that Park, Harvey and Coulter are all Hall of Famers. Harvey's career mainly was with Montreal. He won the Norris several times. He was literally the Bobby Orr of his day. Park played his first several seasons with the Rangers but a good part if not the bulk elsewhere. Coulter was a life long Ranger and I believe he was a captain too.

You know what would make this an interesting poll. I know it's impossible on here but get a **** load of Ranger fans who grew up watching both Brad Park and Brian Leetch. Then see what the polls say. I have never seen Brad Park play. But I've seen other polls where it has Park over Leetch and the only reason why Park didn't win numerous Norris Trophies was because of Bobby Orr (Who many say is the best player to ever play the game).

Brad Park - 896 pts in 1,113 games and 1,429 PIM

Brian Leetch - 1,028 pts in 1,205 games and 571 PIM

Only from what I read in the Hockey News and quotes from Bobby Clarke is that Park was a very physical defense man, which is probably why he played so long with bad knees.
The other thing is that Brad Park's plus/minus ratio was some where in the 300s when he retired, while Leetch didn't even reach 30.
But anyone should remember that Park had the opportunity to play with so many great teams and great players. The Rangers had Gilbert, Ratelle, Hadfield, Tkaczuk and Giacomin. The Bruins had Bucyk, Middleton, O'Reilly, McNabb and Ratelle again. He played in the Stanley Cup finals a bunch of times, but never won the Cup.

On that note, I'll take either player on my team. They were both great, Hall of Fame defense men. I'm surprised Brad's number isn't hanging some place but both his name and number will be forever remembered in the Hockey Hall of Fame. At least.

By the way I meant to vote for Leetch not Park. Chalk it up to change of work schedule and minor bout with the sinuses (low grade fever)--now going in at 12:30 am instead of 3 am--was in a bit dazed.

This is one of those situations where Leetch is a guaranteed No.1, but Park really deserves the 1a slot.

Taking everything into account (length of his career as a Ranger, ability, achievements as a Ranger, etc.) Leetch is, in my opinion, the greatest Rangers player ever.

Everyone I know who saw Park play for the Blueshirts think he was just as good a player as Leetch, though.

Park & Ratelle are close to borderline number retires, accept for the fact that they were moved.

They SHOULD have been long-time Rangers. but alas, it was not to be.

Is this really a question? I think certain numbers a poll isn't needed (1, 2, 7, 11?, 35)

I know, but I may as well just go through. Whenever there's a blowout I'll just move on to the next number (we're at #4 in less than 24 hrs). Plus it gives people a chance to see and discuss some of the other names that may not be as well known or popular from the past.
