i totally agree that it is sheer folly to break up the only line that played well (and frankly looked awesome), and demoting the forward who arguably put up the best all around performance to the 4th line (what happened to rewarding hard work and hustle???).

but I do see where carbo is kind of stuck now.

either he sticks Kovy with Koivu, which for ridiculous ego issues just doesn't work... or he puts him on a line with Kosto/Lapierre, which sets him up to fail if the team expects him to come back and produce...

really a bit of a tight spot, hard to say what I would do...

maybe:

kost-pleks-maxpac
higgins-lapierre-kovalev
kosto- koivu- d'ago
stewart- chips- laraque

probably upsets koivu though, and right now he's already playing poorly...

tough call.
we need tanguay back fast, and if lapierre can't rediscover the solid game he was playing in nov-dec, Bob will need to make a move for a centre if this team is to have any hope come playoff time.

(when you are a star, you make your linemates better. Therefore, Kovalev should look good with those two... and if he is not happy, then he can replace Dandenault, he will see how worst things could be)
Stewart - Begin - Dandenault

PP:
Higgins - Koivu - Kovalev
Pacioretty - Plekanec - A.Kostitsyn (I would see that line as the PP1, but Carbonneau will probably be forced to put Kovalev on the no.1 PP unit). Make sure Kostitsyn plays on the RW because this is where he belongs.

What if Kovalev is not a star? I dont get it when people are saying Kovalev SHOULD make his teammates better. He never did that in his career even when he was younger. Thats he is 36, he has suddenly become a star and should make his teammates better. He didnt make Mark Messier better. Mark Messier made him better.

Kovalev was not the one that made Plekanec better last season but the whole line help each other. I am a fan of Kovalev and Kovy was not the reason that line worked out great last season.

Kovalev always needs a good centerman to perform, if not, he will be selfish and keep the puck from himself.

I can live with the Plekanec-Kovalev duo. But damn, put A. Kostitsyn with Koivu at least. This line is not working anymore. Im a pro-Kovalev but i agree that A. Kost and Kovy should not play on the same line.

I hate you Carbo.

Thank you Carbo.

Thanks a lot you freaking idiot.

We have one line that's working right now, and he messes it up.

This guy would have been fired weeks ago if he coached any other team in the league.

Kovalev got sent home for playing like garbage. Therefore he should have to earn his way back into the lineup, not be handed a cushy spot on our first line where he's done nothing all year (breaking up the only line that had a pulse last night in the process).

Of all Carbo's questionable decisions, this has to be the worst.

That was working too well, Pleks, we like you when you suck, it will cost us less money.

I'm pro-Kovalev too, but even with that said... Plek just suck when he plays with Kovy, this year. He's not moving and always seem to wait after him. When he's not with him, he plays very good games.

That's it. I'm not behind Carbo anymore. When a line works, YOU KEEP IT UP LIKE THAT.

Wow...it's such a joke!

I mean...Carbo just doesn't get it anymore.

Plek's line is the reason we almost won against Washington and Pittsburgh.
Saku's line is so-so.

So, why don't put Kovy with Koivu and Higgins? Let Plek's line alone!

Woww...I'm just...woww...

No idea I've been incredibly dissapointed with him, so soft on the puck, poor defensive reads for a so called defensive specialist. Looks closer to ECHL material then NHL material if you ask me.

can;t believe i'm defending carbo... but...

he mentioned in the press conference today that he too was surprised when gainey sent kovalev home...

this is absolutely amazing to me, and speaks volumes about a lack of communication somewhere in the coaching/management, but that's another issue all together.

If carbo is telling the truth about that, then it's even less surprising that he'd put Kovalev back on that line.

Both he and Kovy said they have no issue with each other, but if Kovy rejoins the team and Carbo makes him "earn" his spot (when, let's be honest, as much as he may not have been playing to potential, he was still outplaying/outproducing just about every other forward on the team), that would undoubtably created friction and tension that apparently was not there before.

messed up situation no matter how we look at it...

Well, it COULD be worse. Like these fu*k*d-up lines :

Markov - Koivu - Gorges
A.Kost-Dandenault-Kovalev
Laraque - Komisarek - Dags
Kostopoulos - Begin - Kovalev again

Higgins Pacioretty
Lapierre Chipchura
Kostopoulos Bouillon

The thing is... with Carbonneau, everything can always be worse!

... ... But I really do think Markov could be a great winger.

Well come on now. We almost won a couple of games because of that line. If they think that they can put what's left of this team on their shoulders and lead them to (somewhere near) victory while everyone else perfects the fine art of losing effortlessly then they need to be put in their places. What were they thinking? Playing "attacking" hockey? Not on this team! Not on Carbo's watch. I say well done Guy, that'll teach 'em Points are for try hards and if there is one thing our team isn't, it's a bunch of try hards.
