92-93 08-09 ressemblances?

In 92-93, Montreal played .570 hockey
In 08-09 so far, Montreal played .510 hockey

Patrick Roy was .894 3.20 31 wins in 61 games (.510) (low ranked)
Carey Price is .904 2.78 18 wins in 36 games (.500) (low ranked)

The top 8 pointers were :
1 D, 3C, 2R, 2L in 93
1 D, 3C, 1R, 3L in 09

Biggest slump in 92-93 : 5 wins in 15 games (dec-jan)
Biggest slump in 08-09 : 3 wins in 15 games (jan-feb)

No leading scorers in the league top #10 in both seasons

Just trying to bring some optimism!

Was there any drama in 92-93?

1 huge difference Price isn't Patty Roy not bashing Price or anything i think he will be a great goalie but Roy was the biggest reason they won the cup that year.

Roy wasn't partying. He was constantly focusing on hockey. Also, he never cried in front of the camera

Is this a bogus report? Or did this really happen?

Comparing 92-93 goalie stats with today's stats is meaningless. In 92-93, Roy was tied for #8 in the league with a 3.20 GAA, while a 2.78 is only good for #26 today. I'm sure SV% shows a similar trend.

right now i would settle for the 2002 habs, squeaking into the playoffs in 8th spot and upsetting the number 1 seed bruins in the first round

Not only that but Bellows hit 40 goals (88 points), Damphousse 39 (97 points), Muller 37 (94 points) and Lebeau 31 (80 points).

This team does not have that offensive firepower, elite goaltending or elite defensive player (Carbo).

I remember LeClair turning into this animal in 93 along with Desjardins.. and it ignited the team. Roy wasn't playing well until game 3 in the Quebec series, down 2-0.

My friend would come over to my house with the ugliest Habs shirt ever, and that turned out to be the good luck charm. Well, that and we drank Schooner the entire playoffs for good luck.

If only this year's team had Lyle Odelein, it would be a lock.

Indeed. I really miss Odie. He was the consumate enforcer, he could play and he could damn well fight. No one messed with us when Odie was on the team. Specially when we had Odie and Todd Ewen.

Remember the night Odie had 5 assists I think it was?

Not only that, the 93 team went on a 11 game (I think) winning streak in March in which they even defeated the 92 Stanley Cup Champs who were also riding a 11 game winning streak.

The two teams played their hearts out in that game and CH came out victorious after which I remember thinking that this 93 versioin of the team was a special team!!

Then CH went on to win 3 more for a total of 14 game winning streak just before the playoffs began.

If this year's team can go on a 14 game winnning streak between now and the playoffs and even beat the Wings during that span, then we'll have a reason to be optomistic!
