Canada World Cup Lines

Alright, it's gettin' close to go time and I'm getting anxious. Here's my call on what Team Canada's lines should be at the World Cup.

Goalie:
Brodeur-starter
Luongo-back up
Theodore-press box

Defence pairings:
Foote-Niedermayer
Jovanoski-Brewer
Redden-Hannan

Forwards:
Lecavalier-Lemieux-St.Louis-1st
Gagne-Sakic-Iginla-2nd
Morrow-Draper-Doan-3rd (checking unit)
Smyth-Thornton-Heatly-4th

Special Teams:
Smyth-Draper-Foote-Hannan-PK 1
Gagne-Sakic-Redden-Niedermayer-PK 2

Lecavalier-Lemieux-Heatley-Niedermayer-Jovanoski-PP 1
Sakic-Thornton-Iginla-Brewer-Redden-PP 2

Press Box:
Maltby
Marleau
Richards
Regher
Bouwmeester
Theodore

Let the debate begin....

According to the first session...

it's breaking down like this:

Brodeur
Luongo

Niedermayer-Foote
Jovanoski-Brewer
Redden-Regehr

Richards-Lemieux-St.Louis
Gagne-Sakic-Iginla
Maltby-Draper-Doan
Marleau-Thornton-Heatly

Leaving:
Smyth-Lecavalier-Morrow as the fifth line
Bouwmeester
Hannan
Theodore

Thus making Smytty and Morrow as the only "first named players squad" on the bench.

Smyth deserves to be there instead of Gagne...arghhh.

Does it really matter? You could pretty much randomly select lines and still produce a pretty damn fine team I'd say.

Its not easy to know how these players would play together. It was easier to build lines when you could just select 6 Oilers who knew how to play together and then fill in the rest. Damn that dismantling thing...

That said, mix-n-matching stars is always fun!

Lecavalier Lemieux Heatley
Richards Sakic Iginla (Iginla--Richards...priceless!)
Maltby Thornton St.Louis
Smyth Marleau Doan (homer pick over Gagne/Morrow but what's not to like?)
Morrow Draper Gagne

Foote Jovanovski
Redden/Brewer Niedermayer
Brewer/Redden Regehr
Bouwmeester Hannan

Brodeur
Luongo
Theodore

EDIT: now that I look at it there ARE three guys from the same team, why not combine since they've played together?

Heatley Lemieux Iginla
Richards Lecavalier St.Louis
Smyth Thornton Sakic
Morrow Draper Gagne

Meh, sounds great to me too...
