Since it will most likely be a late first I might do it, but I'm not as fond of Morris as other people i've heard mentioned in association to Devils trades. I'd rather go for someone like Kuba, Kubina, Nieds. Kuba would be my first choice. (I'd love to bring back Niedermayer but the cap hit would be high as would whatever we had to send to get him back)

The cap hits are pro rated and the devils could fit any player in the league under the cap because of this and they have to room...

I am thinking similar return to what Brad Stuart got last year. A 2nd, but maybe add a mid level prospect...
A second won't do it or a prospect , think roster player as the yotes are at the cap floor. The player has to be good too , no garbage player. Barnett isn't the G.M anymore, Maloney won't get fleeced. Morris might re-sign yet as both parties want this to happen. I guess only time will tell what happens.
im thinking 2nd rounder and a 4th for morris similar to brad stuart last yr.
Picks won't do it! Morris won't be dealt if that is what it's for. The yotes can't loose Morris's salary without taking some back. Maloney wants a hockey deal, a quality player for a quality player. He simply can't dump salary due to the cap floor.
Phoenix has the cap room to move Morris. A first rounder is about the right value IMO. Though if I'm the Phoenix GM I would wait until the deadline and see how many sellers there are. This year might have less than usual.

Look at Craig Rivet. Two 2nds last year, and a 1st the year before. You could argue that Rivet was more valuable(I think it's close), but look at Brendan Witt(an obviously lesser defenseman, in my honest opinion), he got a 1st two years ago. Zhitnik got Coburn the same year. Every year is different. You can't just take one comparable from one year and base everything off of that.
Schneider just got a 2nd and a 3rd. He's way older, way more expensive, and not nearly as good as Morris.

The coyotes are sitting at 42 mill and 420 thousand as we speak , so they are close to the floor but what is the floor ceiling again? 36 mill? Either way, they would need to take on salary for other deals so they don't go under.

Floor is $40.7m. At the trade deadline approximately 79% of the season will be over. I believe Phoenix is higher than your figures even accounting for unearned bonuses, however let's use your number:
If Phoenix is on pace for $42.420m, then at the trade deadline they could trade away contracts with a total face value of $8.2m and not go under the floor.
($42.42m - $40.7m) / (1 - 79%) = $8.2m
Easily enough room to trade Morris' $3.9m contract.
How about this
To NJ
Derek Morris
Olli Jokinen
Peter Mueller
1st round pick
To PHX
Zach Parise
3rd round pick.
If Wayne were still in his prime, I would do it. You can keep Jokinen or Mueller. But since Wayne is retired, fugetabootit!!! I would take Crosby and Malkin for Parise and a third, otherwise Zach ain't goin' nowhere!!!
Seriously, Andy Greene and a second-rounder is a good deal for a player who may leave via free agency (Morris). Personally, I want to keep Andy around. I would make it Greene and a conditional pick for Derek Morris. If Morris signs with the Devils, Phoenix gets a first-rounder in 2010. If not, they get a second and sixth in 2010. I think that is more than fair.
BTW, doesn't Phoenix have financial troubles? If so, Andy Greene would be a nice backliner to have. Greene is a really good prospect IMO. And he comes cheap!
