Smyth would have to waive his no-trade clause and maintained yesterday he'd like to stay put.
"I've got three years left on my deal, and I really like it here," he said.
Doesn’t sound like a lot to mull over for the Habs.

- Tkachuk to Bruins if he waives NMC, but the Bruins don’t want him.
- Oil and Bolts may be interested in Schubert, Sens in Smid.
- Thrashers shopping Hainsey and Havelid.
- Pronger doesn’t want to move, but Bob Murray is shopping him. Devils would rather have Niedermayer. My question: with the race so tight in the West, how can any Western team move anybody good?
- Still talk of Cole to Bruins, but Pens are likely willing to pay the price.
- Sharks and Wings have interest in Neil.
- BJs interested in Kovalev, Pens not yet.
- Wild better sign Backstrom.
Smyth I believe turned down a higher contract offer from the Habs in money and years to got to Colorado, so I'm guessing it is a no brainer that he says no.

Garrioch to me is 10 times worse than Eklund.
He's not 10 times worse, but i'll agree they are both useless reads.

My guess is that the Ducks will be a good 6+ points back of 8th place at the deadline. They're tied for 8th right now, but Edmonton has 2 games in hand, Minnesota has 4 games in hand and Dallas has 3 games in hand. If the Ducks can't win some games fast I think Murray has to look at all of his options which include trading one of Niedermayer or Pronger.
I see Cole's name dropped a lot around here, am I crazy or is he having a really disappointing season? I have a hard time believing Edmonton would get much beyond a mid-rounder and I wonder if he'd really make any of the Eastern contenders better.

My thoughts. Does he really have that much value right now?
Smyth to the Habs isn't gonna happen.... but i do see Anaheim trading either Pronger or Niedermayer to the Devils. The Ducks are playing like crap and are free falling in the standings.
Gimme Pronger over Niedermayer... he can stay with his ***** ass brother if you ask me. Screwing us over in the summer of '05 is still eating me up inside
Is this a thread for jsut the Smyth rumour or for the entire Garrioch piece? Cause if it is his whole piece, can you change the topic title to reflect that, please?
The Oilers are interested in trading Smid for Schubert? What a joke. Schubert has been benched for 8 straight games while Smid looks like he's finally turned the corner and is playing fantastic in our top 4 since Grebs and Lubo went down, but we're looking to swap them?

Cole has been great after his first 20 games, the points just aren't coming. But he's hitting, checking and drawing a whole whack of penalties with his speed. And 30yo top 6 PF wingers with a cup ring tend to always get a big return on deadline day. I've said it many time and been laughed at by the 1st rounders>Actual NHL contributors crowd on HF, but Cole will bring back a 1st and a prospect. The only way that doesn't happen is if he's traded for roster players to help our playoff push.
1sts are incredibly overrated on HF. Every year there are 30 future all-stars that no one is willing to give up, and two years later they are trade fodder for real players.
Ryan Smyth is EXACTLY what the Habs need for a SCP run... he has heart, determination and will pay the price no matter what. I'm not too shure about Plekanec, A. Kostitsyn and Kovalev.

A Kost, I'm not worried about, and Kovalev always shows up in the playoffs, but I agree regarding Plekanec.
Habs simply can't afford this contract. The only large contracts we have that are not set to become free agents would not make sense being moved, so I don't see this happening. Unless we move Hamrlik, but then we'd need another defensemen.

Sorry to disappoint you, but not with that contract. It's in the same category as Redden, Drury, Gomez and Horcoff.
Smyth turned down multiple higher priced offers including one from Montreal I believe. The Avs are a mess but the Habs dont exactly seem like cup contenders right now so I dont see much reason for him to want to move. Not to mention what would they give up that the Avs are interested in?
we've come a long way in these days of eklund to start sourcing garrioch with hopes of truths. whats next....larry brooks? to be fair op at least prefaced it by calling it garbage.
smyth is likely going nowhere unless youre doing something that is clearly making the avs better in the end. they arent in real cap trouble with smyth. they will rebuild. a healthy stastny, a better goalie and probably a better second center to replace an aging sakic and the avs are back in the hunt. may be tough to find those things but they arent in a spot to entirely give up. they will move a defensman or two and maybe lappy.
