When does Avery go through re-entry waivers?

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Avery will be put on re-entry waivers by Dallas so NYR or another team claims him...anyone know when the timetable for his return? Wouldn't it be in the Stars best interest to put him on re-entry ASAP? Are the Rangers asking the Stars to wait until the day before the deadline to call him up so his salary counts for less against the cap?

Also...who else thinks someone below the Rangers puts in a claim? I would be willing to bet someone with a worse record takes a flyer on him.

Yea they need something ASAP.....whether it's Avery of some pesonnel moves

At this point I think we would all be fine with a Monster deal of players

I am talking about moving bodies just to move freaking bodies.....sounds bad but seriously they need some life

I would think they play all their games this week then Avery is on Re-entry by around the 28th........Rangers have a alot of time off before the deadline

Well, the Stars are paying for Avery to be playing either way. If he stays in the AHL, they're paying his salary. If he's in the NHL (with whomever) their portion counts against the cap. Though Dallas has a boatload of injuries, which also open space, maybe it might be in their best interest to keep the cap room.

They may have been told to keep him down until just before the deadline for cap reasons for this season. Just a thought say the rangers approached Hull and said if you call up Avery just before the deadline we'll pick him up but not until then.

Sergei Zubov (out for season) = $5.35 million
Brenden Morrow (out until at least playoffs) = $4.1 million
Brad Richards (out until end of regular season or playoffs) = $7.8 million

All of these players are on or could be on LTIR. Dallas doesn't have an issue with cap space with or without half of Avery's salary on the books.

Morrow is the only player on LTIR. If the Stars attempted to put the other two on, it would be a waste of time as the team has cap space available after tagging Morrow - and, as I've explained repeatedly, a team does not get the full amount of a player's cap number when he's put on LTIR; they get his cap number less the amount of payroll room they have at the time the player is designated for LTIR.

If the Rangers trade for Avery does he still have to go through Re-entry waivers? If not I could see the rangers trading a late round draft pick to Dallas, for a late round draft pick and Avery.

No, he wouldnt go through waivers but the Rangers would have to pay his whole salary, so it wont happen.

I'm just thinking that if they want him bad enough, they may not want to chance someone like the Islanders plucking him off of re-entry.

I prefer fans who don't know a lick about the Rangers to stay away from this thread as it's become comical reading it.

Thanks.

Dallas can sit Avery in AHL as long as they like... Maybe they want to see Rangers lose some more before calling him up just for fun
