I certainly hope ryan smyth does not come to MTl.He sucks and is over paid
LOL, a guy who has more points than any MTL player sucks? What does that say about all MTL players?
He may be a bit overpaid but to say he sucks is just stupid. Also comparing him to Redden, Drury, Gomez, Richards is also stupid. And finally Bruce Garrioch is an idiot for suggesting this because Smyth is going nowhere!
I'd like to be able to interview Garrioch and ask him straight out how the Avs could trade Smyth without his consent...
As for Smyth in Montreal, I love the player but there is no way in hell he's worth his contract. Keep him Colorado!
Its that contract thats a killer...........but you would think that he would be the player that would be solid in Montreal....gritty,good on pp,and pk.........that would be a great pick up for Montreal based on player personal(not the contract)......only way they trade Smyth is getting overpayment.
Smyth I believe turned down a higher contract offer from the Habs in money and years to got to Colorado, so I'm guessing it is a no brainer that he says no.
I don't get the Hainsey part. Havelid is an UFA so that makes sense that he might be moved. Hainsey singed a multi-year deal and has been solid (but not spectacular) most of the year.
A team like the Thrashers has a hard time attracting UFA so moving him would seem to be a bad idea.
On the other hand if the Thrashers do have a fair number of young defensemen who are are/will be competing for NHL jobs--plus they could end up drafting Hedman if they land the #2 pick.
we've come a long way in these days of eklund to start sourcing garrioch with hopes of truths. whats next....larry brooks? to be fair op at least prefaced it by calling it garbage.
smyth is likely going nowhere unless youre doing something that is clearly making the avs better in the end. they arent in real cap trouble with smyth. they will rebuild. a healthy stastny, a better goalie and probably a better second center to replace an aging sakic and the avs are back in the hunt. may be tough to find those things but they arent in a spot to entirely give up. they will move a defensman or two and maybe lappy.
we have wolski, center isn't an issue (it would be less of one if Granto stopped benching Hensick for no apparent reason)
Sorry to say, but this shows that you have not watched him play very much. Overpaid? Absolutely. Sucks?
smyth is probably overpaid by about a million, not as much as everyone in this thread seems to be saying. For what he brings to the table, he is still easily a top 10 LW and maybe even a top 5.
He's been the avs best player and if some contender is able to add him, he will have an impact similar to what hossa had on the pens last year.

If he was a UFA, even at this salary, I'd be all over it. I don't like the rest of his contract.
Sorry to disappoint you, but not with that contract. It's in the same category as Redden, Drury, Gomez and Horcoff.
Let's not get carried away here. He's overpaid but he does not fall into the same category as those guys. He's stepped up and has been leading the team since Sakic and Stastny have been down, he's the team's leading scorer, he's universally loved by Avs fans, and we're not desperate to get rid of him. For some reason the average poster here seems to think the team is "stuck" with him, but at this point he's better to us than he is traded. And let's not forget that other teams offered more money and/or a longer term than the Avs did, so if he did ask for a trade I'd bet dollars to doughnuts there would be a pretty large market for him.

You forgot Hamrlik.
It would be fun to see who most people would prefer to have : Hamrlik for 2 more years at $5.5M or Smyth for 3 more years at $6.25M ? (Oh...obviously all habs fans don't need to answer this, we all know you'll take your drug pusher for sure)
The Avs won't trade Smyth he's been their best player this year. They've already paid the 2 highest salary years of his contract :
I realize the cap hit is still the same ($6.250M)...but I don't see them moving him at all. Stachan started this mess and now everyone's jumping on the band wagon.
clearly if Montreal could get rid of hamrlik, the kostitsyns, price, higgins and a couple of the other guys with off ice issues, they would do it in a heart beat. I think now though, GMs around the league are aware and don't want those guys BLOWing into their dressing rooms.
Like when he took that weak slash in the neutral zone a few years ago and acted like the guy broke his arm so he dropped his stick and the guy went the other way and scored? That Kovalev?

The same guy that scored in each of the next 2 games afterward and added 2 assists in game 7? Yep, that's him.
