11-18-29 in 49 games. 6th in scoring on the leafs. sadly that would make him 5th in scoring on the rangers. he's having himself quite a pre-UFA year!

There is a good thread in the Trade Rumors board about Moore.

Moore has & continues to develop into a nice player, i always liked him & was dismayed when he was traded, I do agree that today comparing the two guys is a wash, I think Betts is very underrated but this is what he is, he may chip in more goals now & in the future, but Moore will be the more dynamic two way 3rd line center, were Betts will always be a 4th.

I think at the time Betts filled the need we had more because of his experiance, & Moore was expanable.

I could see Moore being one of thos guys that gets moved around alot in his career as a trade Deadline pickup because he is the type of player that can help ypu get to the next level, good on face offs, plays hard & is a leader that isn't very expesnive in terms of Dollars, players, prospects & picks.

Both Betts and Moore stink. Just like Ortmeyer did. I can't wait for the days when our roster is filled with players like Grachev and Anisimov instead of being forced to watch clowns like Betts, Sjostrom and Voros.

PKTOI/G

Moore: 2:27
Betts: 3:02

From http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm
if you combine this with the TOI you get:
Even Strength TOI/G:
Betts 8:27
Moore 14:21

Moore has nearly 6 minutes more even strength time per game, i'd say that already amounts for about 15 points more.
then with his 5 minutes more on the ice per game, he also has more time to block shots, yet he blocks less than betts.
of course betts bad faceoff record remains, i dunno what he is doing wrong this year, he was always solid i think.

BUT by far most important is this stat anyway:
PK%:
NYR 87.6, 1st
TOR 73.2, 30th

Forget keeping Moore over Betts...Moore is more valuable than Captain Overpaid. 2 less points than the overpaid Captain.

In hindsight it would have been nice to have both Betts AND Moore on the 4th line.....or Moore on the 3rd line with Dubi. I know he is a center but I still dont understand that trade.

Betts over Moore was a right decision at that time. Although.... should we had kept Moore and used him as 3rd line C, we might be able to keep Jagr for a year or two. We Miss JJ badly this season for sure.

You're assuming that Betts would have better numbers playing more minutes--and that's been proved wrong. Renney has given Betts much more playing time in the past and yet he's never produced more. He's a center who's career high in assists is 5.

An argument can be made on the defensive side, but not when it comes to offense.

Should we have kept Moore and got rid of Betts?

Moore has 23 points for the season so far and averages at just under 20 the last few years while being a good penalty killer playing on the lower lines.

Betts gets about 8 points if he's lucky

Moore to me was faster and a bit more dynamic and had decent playmaking skills

opinion?
Moore's got great speed and is a very very smart person/player which translates into a smart defensive player. I wouldn't say he had any kind of playmaking skills though. He would often come flying down the ice with the puck and had zero ability to use his wingers.

Betts is an elite PK. He's bigger than Moore, has nearly the same speed, and twice the ability on the draw. You can't keep everyone and I'm not too upset about the Rangers losing out on a fairly replaceable part.

Moore is a great guy and I wish him the best. Very similar to a Pascal Dupuis in his playing ability, imho.

On offense, Moore >>> Betts
On defense Betts >>> Moore
On smarts, Moore >>> Betts
On offense, Moore > Drury

I loved the original HMO line. Oh well, that's how it goes. we were only gonna keep one.

At this point they need to make TONS of roster moves

I am not saying it has to be huge but the team needs a shakup on so many levels and instead of firing the coach the GM needs to make some moves

Get a 3rd line C, i have said that for a while...just keep Dubi on the wing

Move Dawes, Kalinin, Prucha and I would even go as far as moving Betts, Orr.........something just to get new blood in while moving UFA's

I would deal Rozi for sure.......that is the big deal unless they can do Gomez for say Smyth as well

Thing about Moore - vs- Betts .. It's kinda a moot point now.

Moore isn't being used as a defensive 3rd/4th liner anymore ... he's our 2nd line center

He has always been used in a defensive role and this year he finally got back to his offensive ways (he was a great offensive guy at Harvard).

When we have a guy struggling to score ... he gets put on Moores line (ex: Jason Blake .. been on fire, Lee Stempniak .. got 2 goals his game on that line)

Their roles have changed now and so I think it's just a matter of who fits their role on their team .. not really a competition anymore. Defensively ... Betts is a sure thing , just not going to put up many points. Moore is still legit defensively, but has found his offensive touch.

yeah, the said thing is, that this thread shoudln't be about comparing moore to betts, but rather to our other 3 centers.

We need a more productive 4th line center. We may have the one guy in the league who doesnt put up offensive numbers

I think the fact that people are looking to the fourth line to add offense just shows how much the big guys have underperformed this year.

I loved Moore when he was on the Rangers. Ortmeyer too.

I'm really happy to see that Moore is doing well in Toronto.
