GM Don Waddell has also received calls about his goaltenders Kari Lehtonen and Ondrej Pavelec, but he's not likely to make any goalie moves at this time. This week, he will start to talk to Lehtonen's agent about a new contract

I really don't see Ottawa accepting any trade that begins with Lupul. What is it with Flyer faithful trying to dump him anyway?

If the Flyers HAVE to make a trade with the Sens, I could see:

Flyers:
Chris Neil
Antoine Vermette

Sens:
Brayden Coburn (or Ryan Parent and a 2nd round pick?...)

The point is, the Sens would be looking to add a strong defenseman who can move the puck.

You cannot be serious with either of those proposals.

Trades need to benefit both teams.

If the Flyers want Chris Neil and Vermette, then they need to offer something Ottawa wants.

I suggested two possibilities who are blue chip defensemen.

I don't know how far either player is in their development (I don't want Philadelphia games regularly), but I do know that really the only "untouchables" on the Philly roster begin with the names Jeff Carter and Mike Richards.

Kimmo, Coburn, Parent, Giroux are probably untouchable as well.

But this is my point.

When asking for a desirable set of players (and, seriously, someone like Chris Neil would be loved in Philadelphia, with the whole broad street bullies image; whereas the asking price for Vermette I read in another thread was Kris Russell and a 1st from CBJ....) you need to offer something in return.

A puck moving defence prospect? Seems like it fits the bill.

As a Flyers fan, I personally don't want Vermette or Neil in orange and black.

I'm more along the lines of realizing we're fine up front, we need a brusier on the back end as well as a true number one goalie.

As well as a new coach...

Fair enough, but that makes the sens pretty bad trading partners, unless you're looking to acquire someone like Smith or Phillips; but even then the cost would still probably be a puck moving defencemen, and D for D trades are strange

Yeah, it does. We ridded of Smith, so no thanks. I don't know enough about Phillips to say if I like him or not. And yeah most D for D trades are pretty strange.

[QUOTE=tytech;18030506]You are insane. JVR is being compared to Nash.

Ya and Price was the 2nd comming of Roy and Stralman was the next Lidstron and than there's Lucic who's the next Neely. Whats your point.

To compare a guy who is doing slightly over PPG in a decent NCAA conference to Rick Nash is a bit much.

JVR is currently tied for 30th in scoring in the NCAA, with several fellow sophomores ahead of him...and freshman Schroeder from Minny who isn't even supposed to go in the first 5 picks of the draft this year is outscoring him as well.

Like I said before, he is going to be a solid NHL winger down the line. I don't think he is going to be anything approaching a perenial All Star like Nash.
Surely you can understand the difference between saying someone has potential to be a player like Rick Nash and saying he has similar value to Nash. What faceless internet person #745 thinks about the potential of a player literally could not mean less. JVR is held in high regard as a prospect by the scouting community as a whole. We could argue degrees, but then you're just screaming blindly at each other with no way to "prove" a point.

Even more to the point, he's still held in high regard by the Flyers. As an organization, they've held onto and developed their true high-end talent in recent times. The only possible exception to this trend is Downie, but I think we can all agree there were extenuating circumstances and enough concerns about his speed and skill level to not qualify him as truly top-end in their minds.

Once again, I don't think anyone reasonable is standing up and screaming this kid's Rick Nash, but I do think it's within the realm of possibility to say it's the absolute maximum potential he could conceivably fill.

That isn't to say I don't think JVR could be had. It would take a deal that would make hockey sense for him to be moved. Sure, there are cap implications, but those can be worked out by any GM worth his salt, which I believe Holmgren to be. Throw the moon at Anaheim for Pronger? Absolutely. Toss in your best chip for a Kari Lehtonen? Sorry, I just don't see it making hockey sense for this team in this situation.

Both these offers are terrible. They favour the Flyers drastically but than again thats probably the OP intentions.
