THE Trade Deadline Game (Game Over, Spectator Opinions Welcome)
Welcome to the inaugural HF Boards trade deadline game. This game will consist of 30GMs representing each team as they approach the NHL trade deadline.
I, danishh, will be your commisioner. To PM me at any time regarding trades, NTCs, and GM conduct, click on my name (top left corner of the post) in any post, on my name in this sentance, or type my name into your PM "to:" box.
ALL GMS must post the following:
Current Roster
Top 10 team prospects
Current Season Goal
5 Year Team Plan
*Waivers: I understand that in order to make the cap work, a number of teams would be using waivers. Due to the time constraints of this game, i'm not sure how feasible this is. My suggestion would be 1 waiver period. Players must be put on waivers by 12:00PM EST on Thursday and will either clear or be claimed at 12:00PM EST on Friday. I will assume everyone is fine with this unless i receive a complaint. If you plan on sending someone to the minors who does not need to pass through waivers in order to meet your cap constraints, you must still pm me to make that move.
if most of this os going to happen friday I have to go out... I have a big test Friday..so best to find another pred person
its up to you, but its not like you have to be on all day. I expect much of the activity will go down quickly (thursday) or last minute (saturday). I would have prefered a td on sunday, but there is simply no way i can check my pms regularily that day. I will leave you in until you confirm you are out.

Current Goal ~ Restock on youth and draft picks. Hopefully rebound from this season after its over and make the playoffs next year.
5 Year Goal Plan ~ Make the playoffs at least every year. Hopefully make it far at least once and maybe even get another Stanley Cup.
- Young 2nd line center
- Defensemen signed beyond next season
- Young 2nd line LW (incase Selanne leaves)
- Draft picks
- Forward prospects
Current season goals:
Depending on the offers I could be anywhere from a playoff team to last in the West. I am however assuming that the Ducks will not be heading into the post-season after trading away guys like S.Niedermayer and Pahlsson, ect.
5 year plan:
Build around Getzlaf, Perry and Ryan. Be playoff contenders in 2 years and be Stanley Cup contenders in 5 years.

Deadline plan:
We're not really buyers or sellers. I don't want to part with my 1st and would like to have a pick in every round. We might send someone off for a pick then trade a pick for someone else. Or do a straight up swap of players with similar contracts. Staal and Whitney we'd want someone signed for a few years for and young. No rentals for them. We want that elusive winger for Crosby. Our other objective is to get tougher and faster up front and on the blueline.
Basically we're not against sending out our players as rentals or making rentals, but we don't want to give up as much as we did last deadline.
Five Year Plan:
To build around Crosby-Malkin-Fleury-Orpik-Letang=Gonchar and compete for the cup from year to year. Draft well and have youth replace turned over free agents and stuff.
Moves:
Sent Jordan Staal + Mark Eaton to ANA for Kunitz, Tangradi, and a 4th
Sent Ryan Whitney + Pascal Dupuis to NYI for Trent Hunter
Sent PIT 2nd + K. Veilleux to NSH for Zanon
Sent PIT 3rd to OTT for Schubert
Called Up Alex Goligoski and Dustin Jeffrey
Waived Chris Minard
Sent down Bill Thomas

Deadline plan
Being touted as the best Stanley Cup contenders, the San Jose Sharks aren't looking to do too much.
San Jose is currently looking for a Stanley Cup experienced back up goaltender.
Five Year Plan
The San Jose Sharks in 5 years should still be as competitive, but younger. Top prospects, such as Logan Couture, Nick Petrecki, and Jamie McGinn couldn't be more blessed with the mentors they have now in Thornton and Marleau. In 5 years, expect Devin Setoguchi, Joe Pavelski, and Ryane Clowe should be the leaders of the San Jose Sharks franchise.
Consistent Stanley Cup Contenders for sure, the Sharks won't let free agents leave so easily.

This years plan: Make some noise in the playoffs. Come out of the east and compete in the stanley cup. Looking to add a 2nd line LW and a top4 D-man. Salary cap may be an issue this year, but we'll deal with it in the off-season.
5 year plan: Continue building through the draft. Sign key RFA's, and draft/sign/trade for a long term Chara relacement. In 5 years, the core should still be together, and hopefully with better defenisive prospects in the system.
Boston get D Tomas Kaberle | Leafs get D Aaron Ward, C Zach Hamill, C Brad Marchand, D Adam McQuaid, and Boston 1st round pick '10
About 3 million in cap space.
