LTIR doesn't work that way, not that the Leafs would have placed him on it anyways, it's pointless to them.

Injured players contracts continue to count towards the cap. The LTIR exemption only comes into play if a team is at the cap ceiling, allowing them to pay, and exceed the cap, up to the amount of the injured players cap hit.

That said, I think they're closer to seven anyhow, not entirely sure where TSN is getting 9 from.

I think we'll likely draft a centre at this years draft so we'll need a good winger and Nash fits that perfectly

dont' use the 9 million at anything at all except sign prospects. Get two top 5 picks this year and next year and save the money to sign the prospects and young players long term to avoid getting stuck with bad contracts now.

He's under contract for a few more years (after this one)

we won't be touching him

Imagine that.. Our starting line up goes from:

Blake-Moore-Stempniak
Kaberle-Finger
Toskala

to

Nash-Savard-Kovalchuk
Bouwmeester-Schenn
Backstrom

why is everyone so quick to jump on the RN train before the CBJ can even begin preliminary talks with the guy. its getting annoying listening to people babble about how they want nash to be our target in 2010 when there is a very high chance he gets re-signed. i say wait until they open up talks with him to decide on how much we are going to be signing him for.

Or he can be our target until he's resigned.

Columbus has a lot of good prospects and it would be stupid of Nash to leave that finished or almost finished rebuild that he's spent his whole career in for a rebuild that will be halfway done.

Send a message via MSN to Deal Sealer
I'd take savard for 5.5 to 6 million. He will take a hometown discount to play here. He has said he would love to play for the leafs at some point in his career. One of my favourite players, Generals Alumn

Our people getting stupid around here? Why on earth would you offer Nash the richest contract in the NHL? Nash is a fantastic player but he is not worth more money than the likes of Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Lecavalier, etc

No team is going to give you first round picks to take salary back. The Caps are better off buying him out and holding onto an important first rd pick. Teams just don't throw away draft picks.....it happened once with the NJ Devils but Lou mismanaged the Cap and was desperate to unload salary......teams have learned from mistakes since then and will not throw away high picks for salary space.

In the case of Nylander, he is a decent player and the Caps are better off hanging onto him and ofcourse, there is always a team out there that will take Nylander off their hands.

It's hilarious that this team is only 9 million under the cap...

...by hilarious I mean I cry myself to sleep about it.
