I don't know if dealing him is a huge step back, I guess it really depends on how you view the rest of their defence corps.

What do you say to that? I'd take Nierdermayer over Keith any day, no matter how good the Chicago fans might think he is.

That said, the first trade suggested seemed reasonable.

Plekanec, Pacioretty, Subban..... That's a pretty solid package. Maybe add in an older roster player to add some incentive for Chicago (who wants to win now), but other then that, yeah.
You would take an aging defenceman who retired once already over Ducan Keith who is top 5 in the league? wow

It is... If you deal him, who else steps up and plays alongside Seabrook against guys like Datsyuk, Hossa, Iginla, the Sedins, etc.?
He's much more important to the Hawks than most people think.

Dealing your #1 d-man without getting a replacement wont really help your team win now.

Gonchar
Niedermayer
Wideman
Weber
Burns
Regehr

Campbell

etc....those arent necessarily in order and im sure im missing some players, but he fits somewhere in this list of players.

Id probably only put 5 or 6 of those guys above him.
The next time I see Weber on one of these lists without any mention of Suter, I'm going to go skin a baby orangutan.

I live in the East, so maybe that's why I'm not seeing him as their #1 d man... I dunno.

Who do you see as their #1?

Ask any Hawks fan, Keith is without a doubt their #1...

I thought it was B.Campbell, to be honest... At least, that was the impression I got when they signed him for 7m a year.

Seabrook would be #2, and Keith/Barker would be 3/4.

Apparently people don't agree with me.

If you don't see the Hawks play regularly you don't realize just how good Keith is. He's almost as valued as Toews amongst Hawk fans.

I live in the east.

I like to think I'm pretty up-to-date on things, but with my two favorite teams tanking this year, I haven't followed the stats for this season that closely.

There's nothing the Habs have that would interest me in trading Keith for. Nothing...

This. There is no offer the Canadiens could make to equal value to Keith for the Hawks.

Keith is more important to Chicago than any other player on the roster, including Toews and Kane. He is a bona fide #1 defenseman, and there is absolutely no chance he is moved, and even if he was on the block, there really is nothing Montreal could offer short of Price that would interest Chicago.

If I was Hawks GM and traded Keith (I never would) here is what Habs would have to give up

D Ryan McDonagh
LW Chris Higgins
C Tomas Plekanec
LW Max Pacioretty
G Carey Price
Mon 1st in 2010

It would begin with Markov, and then Montreal would have to add something, and probably take Brent Sopel back to even up the salaries.

You're being stupid now. Keith's not that good.

Look at the trade for Pronger for reference to what a #1 defenceman goes for.

As a Habs fan, I would take Keith over anyone on the roster.

That was Lowe being stupid then.

Maybe not, but he is that valuable to the Blackhawks.

Which is why they won't trade him.

The Pronger trade is largely regarded as Lowe getting reamed.

As an Avs fan I'd be more than willing to move any 1 roster player and a first rounder next season. So Stastny + 2010 first rounder. Keith is that good. And he was since last season too. This isnt a one year fluke wonder, last season he was a beast playing tough minutes against top lines.

Keith is the #1 Dman. Campbell is vastly overated. Hawks fans are seeing that now. Seabs is #2 on the team.

Duncan is a plus 31 which is tied for 1st in the NHL. plays 25 mins per game. IMO him and Brain Campbell should switch salaries.

Pyke - Keith is the Hawks best player. He plays 24+ minutes a night against the other teams best line, and leads the league in +/-. He's also 25 YO and signed through next year for $1.5M per year. His contract is by far and away the best in the league through next year.

And BTW - almost everyone pimping him in this thread are non-Hawks fans.

Considering that Chicago isn't in rebuilding, I'd say one of Markov/Komisarek for starters. They'll need a quality D-man to take Keith's spot. Then when Montreal adds to that...it wouldn't be worth it for Montreal.
