Please see the original post below. Especially the bolded comment.

Not looking for Rental players. (key)

Tomas Kaberle

for

Matthew Lombardi + Backlund/Nemisz + 2009 1st Round Pick

I think Burke gets his value, in a youung roster player, young top prospect, and first round pick. The only thing is Kaberle is said to only have waived his NTC to go to an Eastern Team. I would like to see what others think of this in terms of value though. Please read before making stupid Kaberle won't go out west comments because I've indicated I'm aware of that.

You can have everything except the highlighted part, Backlund/Nemisz are Sutters future 1-2 centers and he won't trade his #1 pick without getting one back. Look to the farm and find a prospect or just leave Calgary out of the "mr.giveaway" sweepstakes.

Thats the catch, I don't think Jay-bo is going to do a sign and trade. He wants to see what he can get on the UFA market this summer. So even if he is traded a team is overpaying to take a chance at winning the cup.

Kaberle is signed for another two years (after this one) at just over 4 mil per season.

Its going to take that kind of package to land him IMO.

?

Nemisz is a RW as per the Spitfires own site.

http://new.windsorspitfires.com/players.php

Not sure where this Nemisz is a centre talk is coming from, he's been looking like a winger ever since we drafted him I thought.

Toronto isn't going to get as much as some believe for Kaberle.

Maybe that is because the Flames have a team of real NHL depth players and dont have to rely on 20 year olds to try and compete like some blue and white teams.

Actually he will, and if he doesn't we just keep him. Burke already stated the minimum price, which has been echoed by the Leafs board for some time now.

Its called REBUILDING...Im sure the Flames had to do it one time or another in their franchise history...Or were they full of awesome since day 1 (No).

In all likelyhood you will be doing just that. Keeping Kaberle. I just don't see teams willing to pay that much for someone who has lost a step from his previous allstar form.

There is no lost a step. This is where people like you are wrong. Just because he isn't having that good a season (on a bottom 5 team by the way), doesn't mean he isn't a prized commodity. He still made the all-star game and he wasn't even playing up to his usual consistent self.

And keeping Kaberle is fine if offers aren't good enough. That is what smart GMs do, they hold onto assets if they don't get fair value.

Difference of opinion as I see his bad year as losing a step. Its no harm no foul. Phaneuf has lost a step this year. Does this mean he can't get it back??? No it certainly doesn't. I think that having a down year coupled with another year off his contract is going to hurt his value slightly. I don't see teams offering up more than the rumored Jeff Carter, 1st rounder. Just my opinion though.

The only defenceman I want for the Flames is Dan Hamhuis...cheap and affordable. Gives us room to re-sign Cammy too.

Oh okay, that makes sense. We just hear lost a step and bristle a bit, because it sounds like people are saying he's old or washed up or something. I see what you meant now.

Stats-wise he's still on a 50+ pace, and he looks about the same out there to me. I think it had a lot to do with having a new coach, and playing for a lousy team more than anything.
