He can't skate. Everything he scored on at the beginning of the year was around the net and now there not going in.

Any chance he makes it to New york in time to dress for tonights game versus his former team?
Forward Mark Bell has been claimed off re-entry waivers by the Rangers. He will not play for New York in tonight's game against the Maple Leafs, though. - TSN

Desperation move. He can't even put up a .50 PPG pace in the AHL (only did so for 2 seasons in the NHL), and his NHL numbers have fallen through the floor in recent years. I don't know his level of physicality lately, but atleast he might bring that aspect. Could be a good role player and PKer I guess.

Sather has always had a thing for taking guys who need to prove something, coming off tough personal times, dating all the way back to Craig MacTavish, circa 1984.

Just off the top there was Fleury, Avery (had worn out his welcome in LA), Tibbetts...I know there were others.

First of all, you completely mangled the saying... 'making a mountain out of a molehill.'

Second of all, you don't think Sather plans to make a trade at the deadline that could possibly involve Voros or Bell, the two guys who seem to serve the same purpose?

Hopefully Bell gets back on track. It's been a pretty tough few years for him.

Congrats Bell, hope you do well in New York. We'll always remember your awesome hit on Alfie with Toronto, and Heatley running scared from Tucker afterwards.

It's a move for the AHL team. Obviously, the dense fans of this sport didn't grasp that. It's smart if he does well for Hartford. He can help other prospects at the AHL develop. See, the Rangers actually use their AHL team to develop YOUNG PLAYERS unlike the majority of NHL teams which use their AHL teams to support old farts who can't make the NHL. However, being the Rangers AHL team is so young, they need to add a vet or two. It helps the kids.

You do need 3-4 older guys on your AHL team. Sadly, other "clueless" organizations tend to have 10 to 12 old farts on their AHL teams. The Rangers run their AHL farm system the right way which is why over the past 3 years they have added 5 young players and will soon add 3 more.

I honestly think that is he didn't drink and drive one faithful night two and a half years ago he'd still be a 20+ goal scorer, but what do I know.

Not a bad move by Sather. Not to mention Bell will probably resign for cheap.

Laughable alright.

Laughing all the way to top three in the Conference.

But NYR fans should be giving the Devils lectures on drafting!

Been hearing from NYR fanboys for years how NJD's horrrrrible drafting is going to kill them. While meanwhile superstar draft picks like horseface Dubinsky are going to lead NYR to the promised land!

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Current NYR forwards drafted since 2003: Dubinsky; Callahan; Korpikoski; Dubinsky

Current NJD forwards drafted since 2003: Parise; Zajac

Any more questions?

But that's the point entirely. NYR has not one top six forward among their recent "great" drafts....while NJD has scored two quality top-six forwards (one a superstar) in that same time.

Quality vs. quantity.

If one is going to make asinine statements, one ought to back it up.

Might be better off lecturing your NYR brethren who is ripping NJD's pipeline.

By claiming Bell, it means the Rangers will be paying him on his 1.05mil contract (which is around 300k now i think).

Also, personally, I think its terrible management if Bell was claimed to play in the AHL and being paid an NHL contract. I called that bad financial management.

Also, by claiming Bell on re-entry, they will have to put him back on waivers to send him down to the AHL

IMO, NYR are hoping that Bell will play some 4th line minutes and perhaps shake-up the roster
