Canadiens players tested for banned substances

habs players were tested for performance enhancing drugs and other recreational drugs by the NHL reps on Monday. Looks like they showed up spontaneously at brossard.
The results should be known in a few weeks.

Not cause I want to discuss this further but, its something.

Doesn't the NHL do random drug testing for all teams?? I am guessing its just timing more than anything that has peoples guards up.

They'll sweep it under the rug, just like many others.

is this outside normal practice or does the NHL do this routinely? I would assume both here, yes they do it regularly but they have chnaged the timing of doing it for us because of the mangiola (sp) thing

Also, is poutine gravy a banned substance?

anybody see Price`s quote from Pat Hickey`s article in the Gazette?

Halak has won two games in a row - and three of his last four - and the Canadiens are hoping that the competition will spur Price to work harder.

Price's collapse since the all-star break is reflected in his statistics - a 2-8-1 record with a 3.81 goals-against average and an .864 save percentage. His fall from grace has been played out against a backdrop of rumours that the young goaltender has spent too much time enjoying the nightlife in Montreal.

Nobody has addressed the matter directly, but Carbonneau said this week that Price has to change some of his habits. Price acknowledged his shortcomings when he said: "My dad always said your sins will sort you out. He's a pretty religious man and evidently he was right."

They do random drug tests for all teams. This is not abnormal or anything...The article mentions that 10 teams are tested once, 10 teams are tested twice, and 10 teams are tested 3 times, every season. It's totally random.

That being said...Not that I think smoking weed is a big deal, but it IS a banned substance...And considering the age of the players (same as me), I'm fairly certain half the team smoka the peace pipe.

The organization deserves it. They overdid it and are now paying the price for it. This nonsense put too much pressure on every one. But I am sure uncle George does not care because he will pocket an extra $15 million from this scam.

Nothing to the story, all teams are tested every year and everyone passes all the time. Who was caught lat year though? Wasn't there one player? Not on the Habs roster.

Theo and propecia was probably their biggest bust ever.

Sean Hill was busted a year or two ago for a banned steroid.

It wasnt a egular routine check-up, it was done in accordance with the rumors and la presse stories.

Oh...I thought players had actually tested positive. This isn't really newsworthy then...yet...

But for a "random" test, I find the timing rather interesting...

Now the players can either seem completely innocent or guilty. I like it.

They only suspend players for steroids. If they find the fun kind of drugs in their urine nothing happens. Article also says cocaine only stays in your blood 48 hours. So unless the guys are retarded, I hope they took a break over the weekend!

I stand tall in all of this in my evaluation of Price. The Guy has undeniable talent. This has got to be the hardest place to be a goalie and a young one for that matter. The media, the history and the people are all in has pressure.

Nowhere in this league that it a harder place to be in net compare to MTL. I look at Mason from CLB, same age and one in the world junior. The Jacket, well they are writing their history and maybe they have 5 reporters and perhaps 3/4 full ring. No pressure. Just the hockey side of things. This is not to take away anything from mason but it sure helps.

Isn't kinda ironic that they are doing tests to look for "performance enhancing" drugs on a team who's performance have been way sup par for over 40 days before this week???

Yeah, I know, I know, this is rather for the 'substance' abuse program as some players have been rumored to party a lot and hang out with drug dealers.

With our play of late I wouldn't suspect that it would be a problem.

Seriously though, all teams go through this. Montreal press is once again just trying to stir up conterversy and crap due to the alleged drug and gang reports last week.
