You could afford 1 more $6 mil + salary if Lupul is on his way out.

You could ice this team for about $54 mil, which doesn't include a 13th forward or 7th d-man:

Wingers:
Gagne
Giroux
JVR
Upshall (~ $1.5 mil)
Hartnell
Powe
Asham
Cote

Centers:
Carter
Richards
Briere
Metropolit

Defenseman:
Timonen
Bouwmeester (~$6.5 mil)
Coburn
Parent
Sbisa
Alberts (~1.5)

Goaltending:
Starter (3)
Back-up (1)

i just picked him up for fantasy, as I have Miller. Someone must be claiming him, makes no sense for Ott to call him up.

I don't think, with this economy, that any team will be throwing 8 million at any player this offseason.

Two things on that:

1) When you get dealt to a team and sign long term, you tend to get a bit less then if you hit the open market.

2) With this economy and a possible stagnant cap, I'm not sure it's fair to compare past salaries with off-season expectations.

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't count on him getting 8 million this summer.

I have nothing against the guy, but I hope he does. That would help a little.

Pens Send Whitney to the Ducks

They get Kunitz and Eric Tangrandi (from my hometown)

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=268759&l...=topStory_main

I feel bad for Eric, he is a HUGEE Flyers fan and I always heard em say how much he despises the Pens.

Welcome to ****sburgh Eric!

Questions to the thread

1) Is JBo @ 6.5 that much better than Coburn @ 5

2) I would rather see them get Witt for picks and get rid of Jones.

3) If they know Bo won't sign till summer I say wait until then. Not worth losing Lupul/Coburn

I think that a team thats looking to rebuild quick would throw that much out there, if he hit the open market. Look at Campbell. I mean if you are talking about trading Lupul Coburn AND a 1st rounder for an UFA to be, then you know what kind of value is placed on this guy.

I think the Pens are better with this deal. But they could have gotten a lot more for whitney. Including a 1st rounder. They need prospects like crazy. Off- Dmen are a wanted by almost every team in the league right now.

I think that Bradon can be pretty similar to JayBo. I also think we can sign Coburn long term right now for 4.5 a year. This team has no business locking a up another huge salary unless they are willing to let go of another one. Plus you have to look at JVR, he can make 3 mill next year I think?

They do need more scoring and more wingers, especially young ones.

However yeah, They coulda gotten more for Whitney, and I think they are a bit too thin a D now.

They can just bring up Goligoski.

Gonchar-Orpik
Gill-Letang
Goligoski-Scuderi

Still not awesome, but not a huge downgrade.

Kunitz is a solid 50 point player and they get a really nice prospect in Tangradi.

Not a bad deal for either side.

EDIT: BTW, I think Tangradi is from Philly.

Yea someone posted in the trade rumors thread, a Pens fan, said that they are ok on D without him. Im not so sure, Gonchar just getting back and from a serious injury, they healthy scratched Letang against us...Not so sure this organizations going in the right direction. Which im excited about!

A lot of people are saying so they can trade Pronger or Nieds. Makes sense.

1) Why not both? You're talking about having to move other salary around, but I think it could be worth it for those 2. Beyond that, I think that Coburn will have to step up his play quite a bit next year to get 5 and even then I think the answer to your question is yes, Bouwmeester is that good.

2) I want nothing to do with Witt. He's a fraction of the player he was 5 years ago and he wasn't that great then. Islanders or not, -29 is alarming.

3) I'm with you in that I wouldn't move Lupul/Coburn for Jay-Bo. We have plenty of assets to get it done without Coburn being involved and that deal doesn't even move sufficient salary. Change it to Carle/Jones and Lupul and I'd even be OK with that for a rental (which I certainly don't think Bouwmeester would be).
