With the exception of Timonen it appears we bring on Fins just to waive them...perhaps we have some vendetta towards Finland...maybe Stevens had a bad experience?
You guys act like this is a heart-breaking loss for the team, Vaananen's contract doesn't extend past this year, and Randy Jones might actually be tradeable when Ossi is clearly not. Also, yes I like Metropolit as well too, but people he is a 4th line center, and 4th line centers don't make 7 figures or impact a team all that much; hell, I'll be our 4th line center for free and we can clear some cap space that way.
All I am saying is frankly, who cares, unless we are fire-saleing a top 9 forward or top 4 defenseman for a bum or a nobody we really have nothing to complain about.
Still makes no sense. It dosent even save as much as we could if Jones was trraded. Hopefully this is just for Briere and Jones gets moved at the deadline.
Seeing as Ossi had fallen out of favour with Stevens (for whatever) reason, it actually makes perfect sense. I would prefer to have Ossi than Alberts, for the record...but I'm not surprised in the least.
I don't think Jones is going anywhere.
I'm not calling you out, but the majority of people go on and on about how bad Jones is (player AND contract), what makes you think other teams want him and his contract?
Not saying he won't be moved, but if I was a betting man, I'd bet against it.
Not to troll, but I can't believe that these two guys were waived...especially Metro. They're getting paid peanuts. I realize that they need to make room for Briere, but I'm still surprised. Couldn't Holmgren get mid to late round picks back for both of them?

i doubt it. he obviously mustve tried and there were no takers. why give up a pick when you know a team is going to just waive them?
I'm angry at the Oilers. I'd easily have traded back the Flyers 3rd in '09 for both of them, since they fit critical needs (checking C and NHL-calibre D).

I know you are a betting man haha, hopefully you just bet you vcash and didnt lose it all last night. Jones is a tradable player still IMO. He can fit somewhere, especially considering the minimal amount we would want in return.
But in the end I agree that with Jones playing big minuted and Ossi scratched, this was the move to be expected.

Ha! It's safely bet on tonights game, all 20k of it.
If Jones was that tradable, we could have sent him to Edmonton when they lost two of their PMD. Heck, since were so cap strapped...we would have settled for a 4th, right? The economy sucks, the cap is going to plateau...maybe if even go down a smidgen. Teams aren't in a hurry to take on salary.
so in less than a month, ossi goes from being top pair with kimmo for most of the year to being waived. Stevens is an idiot. But I expect better from homer, who was smart enough to trade away vandermeer to keep stevens from playing him. Kuks becomes the 7th dman because they recalled him when kimmo got the flu.
Metro doesn't shock me, powe's 4th line center now with danny coming back. Danny, giroux, upshall for a 3rd line, thats flyerspeed. No eastern team can match the flyers top 3 lines.
Is kalinski playing again? he'd be off the cap once he's healthy.

We still need to clear someone else to get under the cap. We all think it will be Powe.
We didn't have to trade Jones...we should have just waived him and put him where he belongs...the AHL. It's funny bc I remember watching Stevens talk about Jones like 2 or 3 years ago (stevens was a new NHL coach) and saying how Jones was from the same home town, etc. I think it's some self-fulfilling prophecy of Stevens to give Jones the opportunity he never really had. Jones is the most forced-into an NHL role-mediocre-a dime a dozen-defensemen. He and Picard was pretty close in value except Picard managed to hit the net every once in awhile...Jones can hit a car 12 miles away before he hits the net
