I'd be really surprised if Vaananen cleared waivers, Metro I can see getting through.

Something's going to go down. They're freeing up money for a reason. We all know about Briere's imminent return, but I guess it looks like they are going to make a run at Bouwmeester after all........
How does that make any sense?

Me too. I will be upset if someone claims Ossi.

I am not understanding why every is saying Powe will get sent down?

Who will be the 4th line center if he gets sent down?

Yeah, a team like MTL could really use Ossi.

As for the Powe thing, I'm not sure how it makes sense either, we need to have 12 forwards.

So I'm bummed regarding Ossi but what would some of you suggest we do?

I know some of you would rather waive some higher paid players, but isn't possible that those players could be used in a potential trade down the road? Maybe their trade value is higher than that of Ossi.

And I'm happy metro is gone....seriously, i know he was showing some signs of life lately, but he just can't play with other players...if it was a 1v1 game, he'd do alright.

Ossi has been in the doghouse because he isn't being physical. That is atleast what Stevens is saying.

You guys make me laugh.
Totally agree with ya Opus. Again, not that I'm thrilled about Ossi begin waived, how can you all be shocked? If it weren't for Timonen having the flu, he still would've been in the press box. Disappointed, I could see. But shocked?

C'mon guys. Do you honestly believe Homer and company aren't going to figure this out? You act like this isn't his profession and has no clue what he's doing. He's still the GM that turned our team from our worst season in history to ECF Contenders. We're second in the division by only 4 points and 4th in the Conference with the team (and Coach!) that he's put together. I'M still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm fine with waiving Metro even though he's been decent lately, but waiving Ossi is just stupid.

I think their gonna figure it out, I just think taking away a contract that was 2.5 (Jones) instead of ones that were 1.0(Metro + Ossi) would be more beneficial. Im just alittle pissed Ossi was waved, even if I knew it was gonna happen

Not surprising judging by the comments in the newspapers in recent days.

Sure, it would be more beneficial financially. But they're not just looking at numbers. For whatever reason, they LIKE Jones and it doesn't appear they're going to move him. So, while many would love to see him go, and he would make more "financial" sense..... Homer obviously has other ideas in mind.

Exactly.

Disapointing, yes. Shocking, no.

I have faith in him as well. Sure he's done things I don't necessarily agree with, but he's an NHL GM, and the fact of the matter is...I will never be. Much like everybody else on this board.

But hey, it's all part of the entertainment.

I understand the metropolit waiving for two reasons our now overflowing wealth of centers and him being signed for next year as well as this year. With the unexpected developments of powe and giroux (in stop gap situations) as capable nhl centers metropolit has become expendable. Waiving ossi makes less sense to me except for the fact that he has made his way into Stevens dog house. Him and Alberts have almost identical statistics but ossi averages 3 more minutes in ice time per game so waiving him to me doesnt add up.

I'm not sure if these quotes by Homer have been posted but here goes...

http://csnphilly.com/pages/landing_h...984&feedID=717
Quote:

General manager Paul Holmgren confirmed both moves but would not discuss what moves come next.

“Just because a guy is on waivers doesn’t mean anything,” Holmgren said. “It gives us options.”

In this case, even if they clear waivers without being claimed, they could be assigned to the Phantoms, much as defenseman Denis Gauthier was last season, to keep his salary off the NHL cap.

Both players were as free agents over the summer and have not lived up to expectations. Metropolit has four goals in 55 games. Rookie Claude Giroux has just as many in 19 games. Vaananen (10 points) hasn’t been the physical force he is capable of being and went through a rough stretch recently where he was benched for five games. With the activation of Ryan Parent, who is playing along side of Kimmo Timonen, Vaananen became an expensive seventh defenseman.

Briere did not skate Thursday as the team had an “off” day. Holmgren said the decision to activate him will be made on Friday morning.

Briere has missed 35 consecutive games, recovering from abdominal and groin surgery back in January, while he was still rehabbing a prior injury to the same area.

“He’s coming a long,” Holmgren said. “There’s a chance he’ll play. We’ll know more [Friday] morning.”

“There are things we can do internally to get Danny in the lineup,” Holmgren said, adding he thinks he can achieve this without risk of losing a player off waivers. If that is the case, it’s a mystery how the Flyers are going to do it.

“If we can handle this internally, we don’t have to lose anybody,” he added. “They would still be in our system.”

A link to WIP, discussion on (partly) ...

http://player.play.it/player/player....onestat=wip-am

WIP said either Kukkonen or Powe could be demoted.

This makes zero sense. All we are doing is gambling, God for bid Danny can't play tomorrow night. Then what are we going to do?

Thanks MSE for the links.
