really, what did you expect? If they can get briere back with these little moves, it's a GOOD thing.
Did anyone REALLY think they would wave Jones? (who I hate but has admittedly played better)

Surprised about Ossi, but not Metro. Could have been worse.

I don't think anyone thought they'd wa(i)ve, Jones. I think most thought he'd be traded

And for those of you who don't think people want Jones, we did trade Vanderqueer to Calgary.

Jones isn't on waivers because you've got to think there is the belief he has some legit trade value -- why give him away on waivers?
Jacques Martin (Fla. GM) was at last night's game and is planning on attending Friday's game.
Side note: Ron Hextall was there, too, but his team was on the ice. Nice standing-O, though.
Jones would look pretty sharp with a Panther on his chest. With or without J-Bo in the deal, the Flyers and Panthers are a perfect fit for a salary dump. The waiver moves simply give the Flyers more options, and therefore more leverage, in making a deal.

Give me a break.

I like Ossi like the next guy, but he wasn't even playing in the league last year, has been riding the pine of late this year...how good could he really be?

Is this really a monumental loss? No.

To who, and for what?

And for the record, I'm not one of those...the writing was on the wall. This is really not that shocking.

I agree Powe>>>Metro

I was hoping it would be Alberts instead of Vaananen. I am not pissed in the least because I expected it. So goes the double standard in this organization with "certian" defenseman. I am not going to go any further then that because I dont want to go there.

Am I really the first one to say it? Anyone else think this could be the domino? We bring Danny back, and since the Ducks just picked up Whitney from the Pens...Pronger---->Philadelphia? The Whitney trade tells me that Pronger is going somewhere soon.

woah, I just saw that trade just now.
That sure is an interesting deal. Is Pittsburgh lining something up for a run at Bouwmeester? Jesus I hope not.

It's actually really annoying how much he plays favorites. His favoritism is sometimes at the cost of the team and winning games. He is obv into Jones and Cote...for the life of me I do not understand why.

for what? they have no bargaing chips. About the only player worth anything on that team that is available is probably Staal.

well yeah you probably are correct about that. Unless they were willing to part with Staal, Letang and something else. I am probably wrong, Its the first thing I thought of when I saw that. I probably should have thought it out before I posted but oh well.

This came really as a surprise, but not really shocking. I think it would have been a better move to send Jones somewhere in exchange for some draft picks or perhaps a prospect. I think Ossi is a better D-Man.

Poor Metro. He's basically the odd man out because Brière as a winger didn't really work out. Well, his goal drought between October and February also didn't speak for him.

These moves dont make sense...unless another move is coming.

The flyers have plenty of "puck moving" offensive defensemen in the likes of carle, timonen, and coburn. What this team lacks are shut down guys...so if you had to pick between jones or ossi...they should take ossi...especially at the much lower cap hit. jones is good for the occasional flukey goal...but van is much more solid defensively. There is no need to be paying your 6th dman 2.75 mil when hes just a lesser version of your top 3...you take the guy making 1 mil who actually has something to offer.

Jones is our #4 defenseman. He's not going to be waved, or moved unless a better defenseman is returning.

He plays in all situations (pp time should disappear, once Briere returns). He's an excellent penalty killer. Yes, he's slightly overpaid. He's still a solid NHL defenseman.

Physicality most likely. Maybe sexual attraction. Maybe both together.

They take on the full prorated 1 mill, right? That whole thing where the team only takes half, and we stay on the hook for half...is that just re-entry waivers? As in, if Ossi clears now, goes to the Phantoms...but then we try and bring him back up, he has to pass through re-entry waivers, and if someone picks him up they take on half of his prorated salary, and we stay on the hook for half of his prorated salary? Am I getting this right?

And while I'm at it...another question...how exactly does the waiver situation work in terms of the other teams? Each team gets an opportunity starting with a certain team, right? Does it just start with the team that currently has the worst record, and go up from there? I'm really fuzzy on all this stuff.
No one can offer any further insight on any of this?
