Some respect for Alberts

After a rough start to his career with the Flyers, I think it is time that he gets some praise. I was not a big fan of his at all, but he has really turned me around. I have friends that still think Alberts is garbage but if you make a point to watch the guy play he has been very good. He's far and away our most physical D-man, and has surprisingly good speed for a guy his size. He fills the roll of a bottom pairing D-man perfectly, as he also takes valuable shifts on the PK. Is he a Norris guy? Haha...no, never. But he's become a very good bottom pairing D-man.

I have no problem with Alberts. And he is cheap. Solid.

Does make mistakes though. I have noticed. But whatever, you get what you pay for.

yeah he started off slow but has played pretty solid for most of the season. his play has dropped off a little bit of late though i think.

I concur. Alberts isn't bad, but I think I like Ossi more than him. Alberts could be a poor man's Def D (like a faster Hatcher) if he used his huge frame to be more physical. If he could do that I think he could be even better.

He was good in december. Not so much lately. Ossi is cheaper and better in my opinion.

I've always been hard on him. But it's definitely worth admitting he's playing way above the level I expected him too, solid defenseman, and definitely worth keeping around for his price. His work along the boards has definitely improved.

I don't really know what to say about Alberts. One game he plays really physical and makes no mistakes and the next he makes horrendous defensive zone turnovers. I do not see Ossi making the same blatant mistakes however.

I actually didnt like Alberts when we first got em, but I feel like he really has improved his play

HOWEVER, I feel like hes a great 7th man, as I still fee like he should be playing behind Ossi, but thats another topic.

I respect Alberts

i'm fine with Alberts in a 5-6 role.
Overall I'm pretty happy about our D period. Just wish the bigger guys like Alberts/Carle/Coburn/Vaananen would use their body more.

He was brutal to start off with, but then he really picked up his play. It has tailed off a little bit, and he has his occasional screw-up, but I'm okay with that for a bottom pairing guy. I still think the better, cheaper Vaananen should be playing ahead of him, but John Stevens in his infinite wisdom thinks otherwise.

I dont care what anyone says

Vaananen>>>>>>>>>>Alberts.
There is a reason why Alberts was thrown away for next to nothing. He is what he is a #6 at best guy.

I agree with you...but considering that Vaananen was just waived, probably not the best course of action for arguments sake

Maybe Ossi wasn't a good locker room guy, who knows. I kind of like what he brought, but there must be something for them to just prefer Alberts/Jones

I was just going to say, I sure do like Alberts attitude out on the ice. He has also been alot more physical these past few games, which I love. On a side note, Coburn was playing with such an edge against LA last night. They both should play like that every night.

He should've been waived instead. You get a more solid defender with Ossi and for less money.

yeah well last year we had Vandermeer playing ahead of Kukkonen. so yeah.

Didnt Alberts get dinged up last night? We may have Vaananen back anyway provided he clears waivers.

I really like Ossi but I have to say that Albie has improved alot since the beginning of the season, even since the games I saw him play up here in Boston... I feel pretty comfortable with our D right now.
