A big no thanks to Laraque, the Oilers may not be the greatest team but every player acts as if they're part of a team and every player knows their role. Laraque never did, he had his own motives and was a crappy enforcer to boot. He never fought or protected his own teammates, he was too busy abiding by the code. Good riddance, I couldn't have been happier the Oilers didn't sign him.

FALSE !

He thinks that he might get traded because of his salary and the fact that Carbo doesn't want to use him on a regular basis.

He just regretting to have signed with the Habs.

Us too..

Stortini has really come a long way, and is really turning into a great character player, fighting much better (I believe he has the most fights in the league--better ones as of late), creating plays and havoc in front of the net, etc. He's turning into a very good 3rd/4th line guy who knows his role and doesn't cost his team.

I'm amazed, and so are many Oiler fans, at his progress. He's going nowhere.

Not sure, the Globe and Mail has an article now saying something to the tune of he is hoping for a trade. Gangon did say he wanted/asked for one. May just be translation.

Also of note, Steve Begin was told by Gainey that if they cannot find him playing time they will deal him before the deadline.

According to this site. http://www.corussports.com/canadiens...5-1435923.html

It states he believes that he could be traded.

Stortini knows his place and is a good team guy, he's also not our enforcer. MacIntyre is and we're content to have one guy who plays around 5 minutes a game taking up a roster spot, also another excellent team guy.

Hasn't Georges been injured much of the season with a back problem? Heard that he had to ask the Habs to release the truth about his injury because of all the rumours going around (per Bob McKenzie on radio 1260 in Edmonton). Sounds like it's bad enough to require surgery and/or be a potential career ender. As for fitness, Laraque is known for being in pretty good shape and training hard as far as local reports go (he lives in Edmonton off-season).

Can't see the Oilers having much interest in him at this point. As a bubble team, trading for another guy who can't score isn't going to improve their chances of making the playoffs. Not to mention his price tag = fourth line combined as it is. Best move the Oilers made in the off season was when Laraque turned down their free agent offer.

Laraque strongly states that despite his premonitions, hes not going to look for a way out himself. I never asked for a trade and I wont, Laraque told hockeyfights.com.

Get the ******* out of here. We wouldn't even give up a hand full of dirt for Jody Shelley. He's been a bum his whole career. 'Odjick-esque' you might say.

I believe Laraque will be traded. It would be a good move on Gainey's side, free up some cap, and make space on the roster to keep up SKILLED, gritty, two-way forwards like D'Agostini, Pacioretty, Stewart, and Chipchura. Those kids are hungry for a spot on the team. Unlike Laraque, who won't even scrap for 1.5 million a season.

Like everybody else I though of Edmonton as the most logical choice to ship him two. It wouldn't hurt them to pick up a guy like that going into the playoffs. I would take Stortini straight up for him, or even somebody like Brodziak. Probably a bit of an over payment from Edmonton but if we throw in Dandenault (Edmonton could use a veteran d-man after the loss of Visnovsky) and a pick, I could see it happening.

And now the final word...

"I don't want to be traded." -Georges Laraque

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/270017.html

Translation of his comments:

"In Montreal, everything you say is amplified. You [reporters] asked me a question. I didn't call you guys to say I had news to announce. You asked me if I was frustrated to not have been a part of the last two games and I confirmed that I was. I could have lied and said no, but what would that have said about me? What player with a large contract isn't disappointed when he doesn't play?

I don't want to be traded. I have a no-trade clause and I don't intend to waive it. I want to play here, and I want to finish my career here."

I wonder if Steve MacIntyre has made him change his tune a little. In the summer he was saying on Edmonton radio that he expected to see Free Agency one more time in his career and he hoped to finish his career as an Oiler.
