Not surprised that he was going to get traded. It was either that or lose him to nothing, he was leaving IMO.

Dallas is a good fit for him, although he's a great team player and loved playing here.. I think the fact that there is alot of people in the Bulldogs who could replace him and even score... is the biggest problem with Begin. Stewart could do what Begin does and score too, and he's cheaper.

Looks like Chipchura/Stewart took his place.

I'd rather have a pick. Guess Begin was not even worth one.

It seems like Bob only talks to the same teams..
Atlanta last year for Hossa..this year Schneider.
DAL with Ribs, this year with Begin.

Will he try to go after Kovalchuk now??

This is clearly a cap clearing move and a small favor to Begin.

no big loss, I'm guessing 7th round pick or future considerations

The 4th Line was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Habs Fans created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid

Even when you were scratched
Oh, the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Begin was found in the nude

And it seems to me, you lived your life

From the young man in the twenty-second row
Who sees you as something more than a grinder
More than just a depth player

I hope we will get a return someday, with Gainey still giving players for free to Dallas!
Seriously this is not just a favor for Begin, this one for Dallas too.

I still prefer Steve Begin than "can't hit, can't skate, can't win faceoffs Chichura".

So we trade Begin for a guy who is UFA at the end of the year that we'll never see play here?

What a ****ing bonehead move! Begin is very serviceable for this creampuff team in the playoffs..

Sad sad sad. I knew he wouldn't be back with the team next year; I know he cost a game with bad penalties during the playoffs against Philadelphia, but Begin is the kind of player I want on my team for the playoffs. His intense style of play remembered me of Carbonneau... so if Carbonneau couldn't find him a spot in the line-up, its probably because it was better for the team that way.

Merci Steve, t'as été un exemple pour plusieurs joueurs pendant plusieurs années.

ASSETS: Plays a smooth, steady game along the blueline.
FLAWS: Has a very limited offensive arsenal.
CAREER POTENTIAL: No. 6 or 7 defenseman.

Now we have a little more cap space.

Janik can step it up for one or 2 games if we have other injuries at the blueline.

And Begin will have a chance to play elsewhere.

Small move, but i like it.
