There is always speculation that its going to be quiet and teams overspend every year.

What might be intresting is that there alot of teams tight to the cap already. Some have some room but when an injured player comes back, that Ltir is mostly gone..ex Phi and Briere.

I think Poile is right. Teams have learned that the high price of rental players is just not worth it. The teams that want to trade will be looking at the previous market and will not want to trade guys for too little. More teams have cap concerns now than ever before. The races are all tight. I see less trading this year than in a lot of previous years.

Translation: It'll cost a 1st rounder to acquire Richard Park because teams will have to overpay due to how many teams are still in the hunt.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, but I won't really be surprised if a couple lopsided deals happen.

Considering that Kuba's only been here one season, has no ties to Ottawa and is a guy who'll be looking for (likely) his last payday in the offseason, I don't think it'll be too hard to convince him to go on a playoff run and raise his value.

Then why deal the 1st? Ottawa will likely buy because if they don't make the playoffs, all hell will break loose.

I'm scared to see what happens in Montreal doesn't make the post season. You thought there was a riot after a playoff series, God only know what will happen if they miss the playoffs all together.

by the time the Trade Deadline comes around, it'll probably not be as tight as it is right now.

some teams that think they're still in the race might have some injury to a key component to their roster and put their team out of the race

Because Ottawa has been looking for a young PMD like Campoli for a while.

A 24 year old defenseman who'll be here most likely a while has more value to Ottawa than a late 1st round pick.

That deal was for next season and beyond, not this one.

Yeah 2 big trades....5 days before the deadline, foo.

This deadline will be as busy as the past 2 years, I guarantee it.

If "there wasn't going to be much activity" you wouldn't of had guys like Comrie, Kunitz and Whitney moving already. There would have been a few trades involving depth players for mid-round picks and that's it. Poile is out to lunch and apparently, so are you.

Joe Thornton was traded on November 30 - 13 weeks before the trade deadline.

Just because there are some deals made well before the deadline doesn't necessarily mean that the trade deadline will be busier than ever. I'm not saying it won't be, I'm just saying it's still five days before the deadline and this is not the time to be jumping to conclusions.

And I often enjoy a good lunch, thank you. I could use some wine with it, though. You wouldn't happen to have any down there in the cellar, would you?
