highly unlikely he will be moved, he has been very good this year and without him our d takes a big hit especially if salo gets injured again. our top 6 would be ohlund mitchell edler obrien davison nycholat...no thanks.

if anything the canucks will be looking to add a defenseman and use o'brien as the 7th he's been ok but his penalties wont go over well in the playoffs.

IF (and that's a big IF) Bieksa was made available, I'm hoping that Gainey would be on the phone to, at the very least, inquire. But I'd be totally shocked of Gillis was even considering trading him at this point.

Brett Lebda
650k - 1 year remaining
36GP 3G 6A 9P +5
26 years old
Very, very fast skater. Looked terrible the first 20 games or so, has since turned it around, getting back to his typical mostly reliable, "not-much-special-about-me-except-for-my-skating" kind of game.

Expected price: 4th - 6th round pick or a "why would you want him?" prospect.

From the Pens, the guys available would be...

Hal Gill - UFA at the end of the season, perfect rental for a team that doesn't want to take on added salary for next season, just for the rest of this season.

Philippe Boucher - look above, wouldn't be a bad player for the 7th or 8th defenseman. Don't mind the whining by the people in the Pens fan base. He's not as terrible as they say, he's better than Eaton, about on par with Scuderi and Gill.

Rob Scuderi - UFA at the end of the season as well, solid shot blocker and will probably fetch a decent draft pick from 4th to 7th.

Mark Eaton - Signed for another season at 2m after this one. He's not that great, but in the right system he could be useful. You never know.

I doubt all of these guy will get traded but I have a feeling at least one will.

Generally you can assume that a team trading a 1st for a defencemen at the deadline is a team going to the playoffs. So most teams trading away thier 1sts expect them to be 15th or lower.

what does Greg De Vries bring at this point of his career

can he be a depth defenseman playing in the 6th spot, and jumping to a top 4 position when an injury occurs

is he a defensive liability 5 on 5, or is he prolific on the man advantage

If Dallas falls outside the top eight by Wednesday a guy like Stephan Robidas could be available.

age: 31
signed through next season at 1.5 with same cap hit.
expected return: 2nd and a 3rd or a B prospect.

Solid positioning unless he is too slow to get there. Heavy body. Decent breakout pass. No scoring, no PP. Stay at home. Not a liability 5 on 5 unless he gets beat by speed. He knows that he is a step slow so he compensates pretty well. Definitely playing above a 6th spot right now- second pairing with the right guy.

De Vries has never been an offensive defenseman at any point in his career; or at least, not a legitimate one.

He's a good 3rd pairing guy, though. As long as his old legs don't get too overworked, he can play pretty well. Uses his body effectively but won't throw any bone-crushing hits. Good penalty killer and effective shot blocker. Much more positionally sound than Greg Zanon, but slower.

I don't really see it taking a whole lot to pry him out of Nashville, and someone has to go when Sulzer returns from IR, which is likely this weekend. Of course, that's not to say the Preds will take anything for him necessarily, as he still brings some intangibles and is a strong locker room presence for this young and wily defense corps. And besides, look at what Schneider got from the Habs...

He meant the next Timo Hebling- give the Preds a 7th or 8th rounder and he's yours.

For no particular reason, I predict he is destined to play for the Pens, Habs or Sabres.

Which is funny because those to really aren't all that much alike. And not just because Koistinen is brutal.

Give me anything for Ville and he's yours.
