Claude Giroux

I thought he was a winger and as far as I know, he always played the wings in junior.. So I just checked the GTD on the Habs board and it says Giroux is expected to center your fourth line.. Is it the case? If so, do you try to make him a center for the future? thx

He is a winger and has always played that position. But Stevens was juggling lines a few games back and decided to try him out at center with Powe and Upshall. Other than the faceoff department, it has worked out pretty well.

However I am sure he'll be back at wing soon, especially with Danny coming back.

I think he played mostly wing in juniors but did play some center. I think he's better suited as a center because he is such an excellent passer and has great vision. He needs to get stronger and win more faceoffs though. Went to Wednesday's game and had great seats - this kid is an extremely gifted passer and skater, works hard, makes a few dumb mistakes but will only get better.

He has played both this season.

Depending on what happens with Briere, who could play wing or center, Giroux would be on a line with Upshall and Briere. Giroux has played fine on the defensive end, too, which is part of the reason he has switched to center.

This article is about 10 days old but it is a good read:

I don't know how much time he spend at the center position DURING play in juniors but if you look at his stats he took A LOT of faceoffs

Either way you put it..
Upshall-Briere-Giroux is going to be playmaking at its finest.

That whole line would weigh a little more than 500 lbs and definitely get pushed around

I would think Powe would be centering the fourth line and Giroux would be on Briere's wing.

From the Flyers GDT...

Quote:
FLYERS' POSSIBLE LINEUP:

Forwards:
12 Simon Gagne -- 18 Mike Richards -- 22 Mike Knuble
19 Scott Hartnell -- 17 Jeff Carter -- 15 Joffrey Lupul
9 Scottie Upshall -- 28 Claude Giroux -- 36 Darroll Powe
32 Riley Cote -- -- 45 Arron Asham
(awaiting possible waiver claim with Metropolit and further roster moves)
I think this is pretty much what you'll see tonight.

Giroux is interchangable as both a winger and center, safe to say you'll see him both roles on and off.

Like rayearth said, once Briere comes back, look for Giroux to be back on the wing (mainly).

There's no way he's playing on the 4th line. He's been a winger and center but with Danny coming back, he's probably going back to wing. I think they moved him to center so he can touch the puck more and distribute more effectively.

In the future, if Danny stays on the team it wouldn't surprise me if Briere moved to the wing and Giroux moved to center. Either way the kid is gonna be a stud.

I would be interested in seeing:

gagne-richards-giroux
hartnell-carter-lupul
upshall-briere-knuble

gagne and giroux have shown chemistry, as have richards and giroux. each line would then have Steven's magic formula of Shooter, Playmaker, and a Workhorse/grinder

it has worked throughout the ages. Look at vancouver pre Sendin era...

Id like to see a French connection line, just to mess with the Canadiens... I would also like to see Gagne with Briere, they had chemistry before and Gagne needs to start scoring. Id like to see...

Gagne Briere Upshall

Lupul Carter Hartnell

Giroux Richards Knuble

Gagne and Briere Chemistry
Carter line chemistry
Richards/Giroux/knuble Chemistry

They are playing incredible right now.

All I know is that Giroux has impressed the hell out me. I'm tickled pink about this kid. Calm, creative and I've noticed a bit of tenacity lately. He's hitting and going after guys in scrumbs. I can see him being better than Briere. The offensive prowess of Briere and the tenacity of a St-Louis.

Not so much. Richards and Knuble have been awesome, and they all have been good on the PP but Gagne needs Briere right now. Not that Briere should be getting starting minutes in his first game.

While I wouldn't suggest a line like this, how awesome would it be if Stevens started the game tonight with

Giroux/Briere/Gagne

just for the faceoff hahahaa.. dump puck and change.

It would be awesome, a top line that would make canadiens' fans jealous.

Gagne and Briere are Francophones.

Giroux is from Ontario... like RIchards and Carter.

please dont tell me you think he is playing well right now. His line mate just won NHL player of the week including a career high game. He needs to get jump started.

His last year he played alot at center, and I believe most of the playoffs when he just tore it up. He had a decent faceoff% too if I remember correctly. He and danny would work well together and upshall can do the dirty work. They'll just out quick everyone.

Your giving the habs fans too much credit..

they don't care...they fawn over any player that even remotly sounds french.

they wanted Gagne
they wanted Briere
I'm sure they got a hard-on for Giroux

you can add Biron to that list too

Especially with the way Price is playing...

I wonder if we can sell them on Munroe if we accent the end to sound French? Maybe get some high draft picks for him?

True, but I think you can cut the people some slack since Giroux is definitely a Francophone name. Also, the Caps got a prospect named Alexandre Giroux who is from Quebec City.
